question regarding wwe 2010 autos

Just wondering what others think in regards to the amount of autos released by topps in the last 2 wwe sets.
with the amount of autos in the last 2 sets especially the new platinum series where they are numbered to 271 or 275, 99, 25, and 1, that is a ™™™™ load of autos for each person.
it has to be devaluing these autos in some regards compared to the wrestling autos from years past. what do you all think? i only collect autos numbered to 25 in these last 2 sets as obviously they have to be the most valuable right? even though ive picked up some autos #d to 25 from the last set for as low as $10.
i really dont know if i should bother to continue collecting........
does anyone know how many of each auto was released of each person in previous wwe sets (heritage 1,2,3 and 2009)?

271 is actually not a whole lot of a card to be autographed. if you think back to the old wcw topps autos many of those guys signed hundreds of them, much more than 300. When the platinum first came out everyone saw how big they were selling and it has taken a huge decline since the market has been flooded. they will go back up once the market has dried up of them. luckily wwe usually only has 2 sets a year worth a damn. tna on the other hand cranks those sets out with parallels of every card making a 1/1 often worth the same amount as a 1/25. they don't do anything special except change the color of a tiny strip of foil. also the stickers with the autographs on them tend to look a lot cheaper and the autos themselves often run from one sticker to another. also the wwe sets have been introducing new and relavant wrestlers' autos from set to set where tna keeps producing a lot of the same guys. granted a cena auto isn't worth what it used to be but with hogan autos in every tna product, the legends autos aren't anywhere near what they used to be.

the autos numbered to 25 or less are obviously more desired than higher numbered ones but i really think this applies more to the new platinum set as the whole card is gold and gives it a whole new look. the tna stuff just has that strip of foil color change not making it really any different from any of the others. i personally don't care when collecting the autos if a card numbered to 25 or 250. if it saves me a bit of money i am going to go with the one numbered to 250.

one good thing about the cards being serial numbered we know how much hobby product can be out there. with the old heritage sets we have no idea. they could have signed 1000 each of those cards and we would never know

Yep pretty much that. With Platinum in particular the base auto is only numbered to 271, that's pretty much nothing once you think about it. Compared to something like the early 2008 TNA Tristar sets where dudes probably signed up to 1000 cards or more which shows in that you can get 2008 Tristar hobby boxes for about $20 these days and base autos for 99c (I've about 20 of them bought at that price). With Platinum the prices have gone down due to the flood of cards (I bought up tonnes like the triple relics for only about $20!) but will go back up in time.

I don't know much about past WWE sets as I am not a fan.. but with TNA autos #d to 99, 50, 25, 10, 5, and 1 may look less than the WWE platinum.. but you have to figure that they have non #d autos in the retail blaster boxes and who knows how many of those there are. With how many sets both wwe and TNA have been putting out as of late I dont see it stopping anytime soon since they are making money BUT to keep things fresh I fear they will go the way of the sportscards and make a high priced $30-$100 a pack high end product.. when this happends it lowers the value of alot of the current cards since collectors will only want to pay alot for the singles from the BEST product.

yes this is what i am worried about. i was a little hesitant about my last purchase as flair/hogan dual autos are in the last 2 or 3 sets. either way i think i have to ease up because im spending a bit lately over the holidays, im actually glad im back at work and off ebay a bit.

also i never knew the wcw topps autos were around the 300 mark, does anyone know for sure?? those cards are my all time favs, i hate letting any of them go.

from what I have been informed many of the topps wcw autos are even around the 800 mark. very few of them are short printed. ones that have been confirmed to around 100 signed are malenko, buff bagwell, alex wright, lex luger, ernest miller.

where did you get that info from geoff? im very very interested, always wanted to know.
alex wright and malenko have seen them round much, but the others you mentioned ive seen them more regularely.
theres no way there is 700 hogans or elizabeths, i dunno that sound too many for any of them

the info has come from various collectors. i doubt there is 700 of hogan or elizabeth but i know they are no shortprinted either. i have been told by several collectors that each of the "bigger" stars like hogan, sting, hart etc signed around 400 each. one thing you have to remember is that they are from 98 and 99 when autographed cards were not numbered. i know wrestling was a much smaller market than say basketball but take a look at the skybox autographics back then. there was a parallel set where they signed 100 cards and those were considered super rare and regular autographics were pulled at about 1 in 2 boxes. the regular autographics players probably signed 1000 or more. many of the topps wcw autos have disappeared into peoples collections and won't surface making them seem much more rare than they really are. granted some of the wrestlers autos show up very seldom, it doesn't mean they are more rare than another. i'm not a fan of these cards because they are rare. i'm a fan because i enjoyed watching these guys over 10 years ago much more than i enjoy it today. also, they were on card autographs which are unheard of in today's hobby.

I don't no how true this is but I was once told the breakdown on WCW Topps autos was this:
Nitro Girls,Refs, Managers, and undercard Wrestlers(i.e. worldwide or sat.nite) 1250
Reg Nitro(first hour guys) 1000
Mid-Card and Popular low level faces 800-900
Upper guys(not quite Nitro or PPV main eventers) 600-750
Main Eventers 250-500

now again not sure if this is true at all just what I was told a few years back....cuz I know alot of the lower people seem to be able to be had for 25.00 and below....hope this sheds some light however

i am sure that is true to an extent. the problem is it was spread over 3 different products who all 3 had different runs. nitro being the biggest of the 3.

what i do find really funny is how beckett seems to price them. many of the nitro girls have a bv of 60 but then lex luger is 50. dean malenko is listed as a common but i have not seen it sell for less than 100.
