Black Diamond diamonds?

What is the purpose behind the diamond on the side of Black Diamond cards? I opened the first two packs of Black Diamond I've ever tried today and was pleased by the look of the cards but the Carey Price I pulled was different from the rest of the cards; it was a two diamond verses the single diamond of all the other cards. Does this mean it is more rare/valuable? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

They use tiers in Black Diamond.
Single diamonds for the common guys.
Double diamonds for the semi-stars. 1 in 4 packs.
Triple diamonds for the stars and scrub rookies. 3 of each per box.
Quad diamonds for the superstars and best of the rookie crop. 1 of each per box.

Obviously, the more stars, the more scarce, the most valuable.
