well heres what i would do...
Do you know the guy selling it? Cause he MAY have said 300.00 hoping that you would just tell him 320 or something. His actual highest offer could be only like 150 or something like that.
i would offer him whatever you are willing to pay anyway and word it like "in case that offer falls through, im willing to pay XXX."

his asking price is at least reasonable. i can see $300 being a possible ceiling for that card. Mason was easily worth that at one point and the HG /10's are always heavily sought after.

x2
I'm guessing he's having a hard time facing the reality that the card is worth half of what he paid for it back when Mason was having an amazing rookie season. He likely overpaid back then, and is hoping to recoup as much as possible.
There's no way that card is worth anything approaching $300 if the market is any indicator. Check out some of his recent sales, including the attempted sale of one of his Shields. Now is not the time to expect good return on anything having to do with Mason.

I agree with the above post. Make him an offer for what you are willing to pay and tell him to let you know if he ever decides to lower his price.
I feel your pain. I have had this happen to me where the seller wants way too much for a card I have been looking for forever.

I recently did this....successfully.
I made 3 offers (all the same amount) spread out over 4 months. On my first offer, he didn't budge from what he considered his lowest (still $200 higher than my offer). The second time he came down $100, but it was still too much for me so I let him know my offer would stand as long as the card was available. On the third attempt (4 months after my first try) he finally gave in and accpepted my offer. It took a lot of patience and communicating. I showed him my collection to let him know I was serious about wanting the card and also what I had paid for similar cards to show him where I was getting my price from. Sometimes persistence pays off.

sup, well considering u and i are probably the 2 guys who would pay the most for it and neither of us would pay near that, id say its fairly overpriced. I offered a guy on here $130 for the Mason Rookie Materials patch but couldnt land it, and last week i landed it for half that. Im sure both of us will end up getting one in the long run for much cheaper than that. Also for comparisons sake, you could get his BD rookie gold /10 for 99 thats been sitting on the bay for 6 months now. Lots of better places to put your money as a Mason collector.

Hi Doug, yea I agree with you on those points. I offered on the Black Diamond Gold as well but the seller won't move on it. He can just keep re-listing it, I don't feel it is a $100 card. Maybe $50-60. ]
I have just completed a deal for some other Mason 1/1 and they were less than the guy wants for the High Gloss. I am sure others will pop up again.
BTW, I just checked out your Mason collection in your bucket! Very nice. You have some pieces I really want! I am gonna start working on getting my collection on photobucket so you, and everyone else can have a look at it

how some of these HG /10 draw prices of 100+ is almost completely beyond me. (but not that i would complain)
must be a collector thing ;-)Last edited by caseyramone; 01-19-2011 at 09:48 PM.

So I made another attempt at it. Seller said he has offers higher than $150. I told him he should sell it then because he likely won't see another offer that high. Greendawg and I are likely the only Mason collectors who would think about going that high on it. Seller then wrote back that he is not in a hurry to sell it anyways. I replied saying, if he decides to sell it to contact me and my offer stands.
I think it is a case of him getting the card when Mason was hot and now he isnt, and the seller doesn't want to lose on the card.
