what do the players do with old/used equipment
I asked my step dad what Rob Schremp does with his old/broken used equipment. My step dad said: Rob told him that the team takes, and is in charge of all their equipment. I know that the team auctions off game used jerseys. How else could I get something game used? How do the players get away with giving fans game used equipment? Where does old/broken equipment go other than auctions?

I have gotten numerous amounts of Hockey sticks from sitting behind the bench and then they gave me broken sticks or sticks they no longer wanted. Another cool thing the Oilers do(I live in Edmonton) they donate all there equipment and also a local store I go to alot has alot of Oilers equipment(skates,Gloves,Sticks,Jerseys,Goal Pads, catches, blockers) another source is also at Rexall Place in one of the Oilers stores they have GU sticks. You can also buy game used jerseys from MeiGray which I am guessing is given to them buy the team or they purchased it from the team.
P.S the team only takes the stuff he hasn't used. So like sticks that haven't been cut or taped they take those. Cause I remember a couple years back when the oilers got eliminated from the playoffs they had schremp packing his car with his hockey equipment(yes schremp lol) and he had about 10-15 sticks with him and all his gear.Last edited by gagnerfan89; 01-17-2011 at 09:40 PM.

yeah, A LOT of equipment goes to auctions, such as the NHL auctions, charities, and team stores. I know that for the Canucks, and a lot of other teams, they have a big annual equipment sale in which the team sells all of their stuff. I also heard from a fellow hockey hound, that sometimes they will hound the Bolts, and just by asking for sticks, the players will genersouly give them a stick. Broken sticks are usually left behind the bench, which would probably sell for a few bucks.
Also, I believe Hockey Ink sells game used sticks, if Im not mistaken. You might wanna check out their site out, or maybe email them after the season is completed.
Hope this helps!

i think the broken sticks are tough cause sometimes you can put a blade or a plug in and still use it or they send it to a manufacturer, but my local AHL team does raffles mainly,my friends local AHL team sells the sticks in the store at the rink during games for like $50

Are you talking about the Islander website or Islander stadium? I knew about the website (game jersey worn program). I didn't know about the skates, lineup cards, ect. Those would be cool to own. Do you know how much the skates are going for, just out of courosity? Thanks

Lots of teams do it.... sell used equipment. Often the money goes to charity.
On my way through Nashville last summer, me & my buddy stopped in @ the arena in Nashville. Picked up a Jared Smithson stick for $50 (this is the nicest hockey stick I've ever owned, though my goal scoring hasn't improved much) and the friend that was with me bought a pair of Jason Arnott's skates for $100. He swears he's skating better, but I'm not really sure about that :)
Anyway, my point is that a lot of teams will sell this stuff, and they don't ask a lot for it. In Canada, and a few USA markets, you're probably going to pay a ton... you'd pay a ton anyway for any real huge superstars.... but for most players, you should be able to pick up some stuff at a fairly good price.

At the Colesium on game days, they have a booth setup where you can purchase all the stuff that I mentioned. For lineup cards there is a fixed price, last year it was like $20-25. Equipment is broken down into 3 different tiers, A,B,C. With players like Tavares, Okposo and Streit in Group A. I will be going to a game in March so I can let you know more then. They have the same thing at their practice facility.
