Signed bookplates
Just a few weeks back I found something cool called autographed bookplates. I sent an email off to one of my wifes favorite authors asking for autographed bookplates (stickers that are signed by the writer to stick to inside cover to make book autographed) and she mailed two autographed bookplates and a book for her! I have gotten 6 different writers in the last two weeks! Anyone who is a reader, may want to do an online search for their favorites and send an email asking.

Authors have been one of those things I've been wanting to get around too. I haven't researched a whole ton, but I've found a few. I would really like to get Charlaine Harris for my wife...she writes the Sookie Stackhouse novels that Tru Blood is based upon.
Who have you received thus far?

JVazz29, mostly are not huge names. I pulled a few books out the the bookshelf, did a little research online and sent off emails. I am about 50/50 on returns vs requests so far. Here is something interesting as celebrities do books as well and another site says these celebs are coming out with books soon:
Celebrities with books coming out in the next few months:
I personally would be interested in 4 names off of that list.

You can pull up an authors name and official site search on google or yahoo. Find their official site and look to see, if they are offering signed bookplates. Some of them are asking for SASE, some send after an email and others have nothing at all. For instance Anne Rice had one avail via a SASE last year as did former President Bush! Just do a little looking around online and you will find some. Paula Poundstome had one via email not too long ago. The idea is to take the signed stickers and place them inside your copy of their book to make it a signed copy!

This was a surprise! I sent an email via his website to Tony Dungy about a week ago asking him if he had bookplates to send. Today I see an email in my inbox from "coach dungy" reading as follows:
"Hi Erik!
I do not have any bookplates at this time. If you happen to have one to send me to sign I can do that. Or, if you want to send the book I can sign it and send it back. Please make sure to have proper return postage in the package.

Should I go out and buy like name-tag type stickers or something at a dollar store and mail them to him? I don't really want to pay the shipping both ways to get the book itself signed. Any ideas?

It is up to you as to what you want to do. I would print off the email and send the jacket of the book to be signed and a sticker myself. The autographed jacket would make the auto easier to display, but books are traditionally signed on the inside. I would add the sticker there as well.

I didn't even think of the jacket idea- I like that and think I will do exactly that. I will go to the dollar store and buy the big label-type stickers with no writing on them and mail him both.

Dungy autograpd book would be cool.. Might think about this..
If Jericho is doing the booklets, that would be my #1. Pretty sure he is a very tough auto to get. I know he was left out of a few autograph wrestling sets for one reason or another. Hagar would be my #2, only because its Sammy Frickin Hagar!!
