Building ManCave - UV Ray Protection & Lighting?
Hi Guys,
New to the forum! Finally bought a house so I can get my memorabilia room setup. Questions on lighting and protection/deterioration...
a) I have 1 window and plan on getting that tinted that gives 70% UV protection. Also I have drapes over the window
b) I'm installing track lighting with incandescent bulbs (no halogen)
3 questions:
1) Am I fine with using regular glass cases (not UV protective) for my autographed items? I'm getting helmets, photos, cards, etc. everything framed up and wondering if its worth the additional cost.
2) Is anti-glare glass good enough for framed photos or do I have go a step further and get the uv protection?
3) I'm basically going to have a couple ikea detolf shelves where I'll store items and the rest will be on the walls. Also if anyone has ever used those Detolf shelves and used display cases INSIDE of the Detolf shelves. Wondering if that would look weird or not, glass inside of glass...
I appreciate it guys...

Well, in my opinion I would just go for the best. It really isn't worth it for some of your autos to fade or anything just so you can spend a little less for everything. Just my two cents.

I'd go with UV protection just to be on the safe side, or find some way to make your mancave organized in such a manner that sun just can't reach it (blocking off your window entirely might have to work in your case). My womancave is set away from my window so that the sun can't reach my cards.

Window tint and uv plexiglass (its pretty cheap if you look in the right places) is your best bet, also where is the window located? monitor the room for a month to see where the sun hits during different hours of the day. Along with tint and drapes I suggest blinds as well. Then you should be 100% ok.

I've decided that I'm going to do the following:
1) Tint the window, 70% uv protection
2) Get incandescent track lighting
3) buy acrylic/glass/plexiglass with 98%+ uv protection no matter what
I'm not going to take any risks, mostly when I'm travelling out to meet each player to get auto'd in person, if I'm going to spend so much time and money in it, buying the right displays for it is worth it.
The Window is in the back of the house, not much light goes through, I'm just paranoid. I also have thick drapes.
Thanks for the help guys!
