Paint Pen on 8x10 TTM???
I was starting the 1980 US hockey team project on an 8x10. I was going to send it out with a gold sharpie paint pen.
I was wondering if the autograph would get smudged or what not in the mailing process. or should I stick with a good ol' blue sharpie?
Thanks

I think most players sign & stuff the envelope right away. So I'm gonna guess at least a few of them will get smudged. Heck, I've gotten smudged autographs TTM when they used a sharpie.
That's just my $0.02.

I am doing the same project, and they will probably smudge. I could only find gold paint pens and didn't want to risk it. Because I did a picture that is color with a black and white background, I've been having them sign it in silver sharpie. It looks great, but I am getting concerned b/c even the silver SHARPIE doesn't seem to be holding very well from person to person. I only have 3 signatures and I hate re-sending stuff, but I've thought about starting over with matte photo paper rather than the semi-gloss I used.

Im thinking the same thing, I was testing on a blank piece of glossy paper, and It looked amazing and dried pretty quickly. I think ill send out the 1st with a paint pen, and see how it comes back.
Thanks for the advice.

I would go with the sharpie too. You have a much better chance of it not smudging. By the way, JVazz, I think just about all of them save for Janaszak kept my sharpie. It's a fair tradeoff, of course.
I NEED 02/03 Topps Heritage Calder Cloth cards!!!
Always looking for signed Philadelphia Sports Illustrateds!
Have an odd Richie Ashburn item? I might want it!
Looking for 66-67 Topps Hockey

It certainly is! I don't care if they keep it or not. Just for this project I went out and bought about 10 sharpies so I always have one ready to go!

I'd say 80% of the returns I get that have been signed in paint pen smear in transit. I hate paint pens for that reason.
That said, the ones that don't smear look amazing. This is one of the best looking autos in my collections:

Carson signed it and definitely let it dry well before he placed it back in the envelope. I also think thinner paint pens work better for TTM requests than thicker ones.

Thank you for your advice, I know when they are given proper treatment, they look amazing! But Im expecting them to sign and stuff back in the envelope. So I may just go with sharpie.
