Strangest way your auto was ruined?

We have all had some strange situations come along where items have been ruined. I wil never forget the day that I opened three different 8x10 requests on the same day. I usually throw all my trash in one envelope and that days largest envelope usually gets all of the days autos into it and tossed back in my inbox until I take time to organize them and place it the correct photo books or whatever. Typically that days trash will go in another envelope to get trashed. I grabbed the wrong envelope one day and saved the envelope full of trash for my inbox and tossed the autos! Oooops! That was not my strangest though, it was only poor organization! My strangest was done by a player. Jeff Juden was in AAA after having played a few years in the Bigs. I was outside the visiting lockerroom with a few other graphers when he left after a game one night. I asked him for an auto and held up my autograph book with cards inserted in it. He was very kind and agreed to sign. The problem was when he went to grab my sharpie he spilt beer ( yes, they used to allow players to carry beer out of the locker rooms) all over my page! He actually apologized, wiped the book a little and then attempted to sign the soaked cards! I had a chuckle about it myself, but a bit more dissapointed when getting home and pulling the book realizing it had hit more than his page. I lost a good number of autos on other pages, but learned a lesson. Never ask a player to drink and autograph! What is the strangest way that you have ruined one of your autographed items?

I've never had an autograph ruined, but I did get a Packers sweatshirt ruined while getting autographs at a Cavs game. Somebody got the entire back of my yellow sweatshirt with a blue Sharpie...

I had an 8x10 envelope come back from Randy Gradishar. It had literally been burned up by the USPS. Came back in the little body bag too.

Also, had Rugger Ardizoia swap my card out for what he described in a note as a signed magnet. The envelope was trashed and the note ripped to pieces. I wonder if the magnet became stuck in the processing machinery that the USPS used? Weird one.

I was getting multiple players to sign the AAA durham roster page of my program and I got Kelly Shoppach to sign it (he was rehabbing). Minute's later I saw the hitting coach (name eludes me) and asked him to sign. His spot on the page was quite a few inches away from my Shoppach, but instead of signing on the blank spot by his name he signed so that the last line from his name went directly through my shoppach autograph. I was like ™™™?!

So I saw that Shoppach had walked further down the line and was sitting on the ground doing his stretches. I followed and waited patiently for him to finish. Then I said "Mr Shoppach can you come over here?" He looked a bit surprised but he came over. I told him what had happened and showed him the auto with the line through the top of it. He laughed and said "Cmon that's no big deal- it's still good, ain't it?" And then he walked away. His laughter and comment were good spirited though, not meant to be mean or malicious, I think he just found the situation funny.

Anyways that is pretty strange if you ask me, and a funny story at that.

I have an official HOF map/guidebook signed by 11 HOFers(Roberts, Fellerx2, Perry, Jenkins, Cepeda, Jackson, Killebrew, Doerr, MacPhail, Ford, Marichal). I'm getting it signed on 3 pages so there's plenty of space. Orlando Cepeda ran the a in his last name right down into the Gaylord Perry auto.

    Its not too bad though.

i was at twinsfest in probably 2008 maybe 2007, but i had waited in line for about 30 minutes for jason kubel who was my favorite twins player at the time. i got up to the front and got this card signed by him in silver sharpie. i went to put it back in the sleeve and i got bumped by somebody, and the card rubbed against the sleeve, smearing the autograph, completely ruining it. i was very upset at the time. haha

I was at a junior hockey game and I got Michael Del Zotto to sign some cards for me, then some other scrub grabs a kids flag he wanted signed and turned saw my binder and signed right over Del Zottos graph, the flag was wet or something and smudged the del zotto to hell.
