Pannini concerns...Warranted?
I bought a Pannini Limited Tough Times Auto redemption of Dave Brown (#'d to 250). I went to the website to process the card and one of the questions they asked was how long would I wait for my card before they should send another card as a replacement. The options were four months or eight months.
I don't want a replacement. I want the card I bought. To think they would send me a Joey Kocur or Jay Miller auto as a replacement is ludicrous. Those cards would mean nothing to me. I will wait as long as it takes to get my Dave Brown card, but I have no way to convey that to them because it was not an option.
I don't like the idea of placing a deadline on delivery of a card. What if they send me a replacement at the eight month mark and then the Brown cards become available during the ninth month?
Is this a common problem for Pannini, or am I making too much of it?Hidden Content

I wouldn't worry. They'll either keep it in limbo..... or you'll have to settle for a replacement. I've seen people wait past the 8 months with no response as to what is going on with their card.
In my opinion, replacements/ redemptions are the easy way to put out an unfinished product. I hate that it's becoming "normal" to get a redemption. I cringe opening boxes now hoping that i don't find one of those thick white cards stuck in the middle of a pack.
*--=== Here's to hoping you get your redeemed card though. Best of luck.

I'll jump in on this one too..... since I've also purchased, and redeemed a Dave Brown Tough Times auto.... and wouldn't really have much interest in the alternates (at least the other players in that set).
I would imagine that if after 8 months you want to keep waiting.... and Panini still has hope of getting the card made (i.e. there is no problem with Dave Brown) then I'm sure they'll let you wait (and I would do the same thing). I suspect the 4 month / 8 month thing is simply there becuase there are a lot of people that get impatient with redemptions...... they pulled it, they want it as soon as possible, and waiting 4 months is already too long of a wait for them.

The 4/8 months thing is the window of opportunity you're willing to wait before you're able to request a replacement. They're getting a lot of autos back in-house now and they're going through the QC process to get out the door as soon as possible.

See, I know good things come to people who wait, but I'm feeling that if a company is going to put out a product that they want 70-150 dollars then the least they could do is give you a card that they don't (in case of a redemption)have to say "Whoops, we're sorry you spent so much on our product but we don't have this at the moment."
But yeah, the redemption time frame is just a matter of "suggested time" to wait. 4-8 months doesn't mean that you'll get your card then. It means that if it's past the time you choose, then you can choose to get a replacement for something they have.

Another option too is to mention that you'll wait more than the 8 months for the card. I had redeemed a rookie patch/auto from Limited, and in the comment section I half-jokingly half-hoping, asked if it was at all possible to swap the rookie. I actually received a response to the question, basically saying that I'd have to wait until the 4 months.
Point is I guess, is that they must check the comments on open requests, so aside from the fact that it sucks to have it as a redemption and have to wait more than 8 months, at least if you let them know you'll wait it out, you won't necessarily get stuck with a replacement right at the 8 month point.

Panini Concern...Warranted or Unfounded?
I am a huge Dave Brown fan (Flyers, Oilers) and recently purchased a 10-11 Limited Tough Times Dave Brown Auto Redemption #'d to 250. When I went to the Panini website to process the redemption tehy asked a series of questions. One of the questions asked how many months would I wait for my card before they should send a substitute card. The choices were 4 months or 8 months. There were no other options. It gave me the impression that this is an absolute deadline and there will be no opportunity to say, "I'll wait a little longer, thank you"
I know there is alot of animosity towards UD for taking so long to fulfill redemptions and maybe this is Panini's way of avoiding that, but I don't want a substitute. I want the card I purchased and redeemed. I am willing to wait longer to get it, but have no way of conveying that to them. I typed a message explaining this is the "NOTES" box on the redemption for, but it cut my message off after the first few words.
I chose the eight month timeframe because it gives the longest possible time before they send out a substitute. But, I shudder to think they could send me a substitute Jay Miller tough times after eight months only to have the Dave Brown cards become available at the 10-month mark.
I have never dealt with Panini in terms of redemptions and am wondering are my concerns legitimate or am I get worked up over nothing?
Thanks.

I wouldn't get worked-up at all. Upper Deck are 2 years behind on some of their redemptions.
I sent UD a letter telling them to Get Professional and send a Representative out to get the cards signed. This nonsense of sending the cards to the player and then having to wait until the player feel like signing? Not a great policy.
Be patient, and hope for the best. After 4 weeks, give them a call and see where they are in regard to the Redemption card.
In regards to Brownie.....He broke my nose in 1978 in Saskatchewan. Hit me once and it was good nite Irene.
