Three questions...
1. How did you start collecting?
2. How old were you when you started collecting?
3. What's your opinion of these $100+ packs?
Now...it's time to pop the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show.
I'm really looking forward to some responses.

1. Friends growing up (across the street from me) were really into it. Their parents owned a card store.
2. 10
3. No problem with them.... but generally not my thing. I did buy a pack of UM10 this year ($120) which is the most expensive I've ever done. I'll probably wait until UM11 before I do it again.

1) My little brother started to collect, then one of my Older brothers and then I just got into and on my first box I pulled a Mueller and just started collecting him(i know that wasn't in the question hahaha)
2) I was probably 15 but if you count just collecting Mcdonalds cards probably like 6 or 7
3)I don't really mind the $100 packs. I've only bought one just like ranfordfan but it was limited and I had a great pack. Pulled a Schenn rooke auto patch Sp /294, Varlamov jersey and a Elliott gold auto /50 plus some other stuff.
also.... whats your answers to the questions you posted?

1. My dad had collected baseball and football off and on and occasionally bought me baseball cards. He's been out of it for a while, but I've got him back into it again here lately. I got hooked on hockey a little over a year ago and started buying a few cards this time last year.
2. I was 19 when I started seriously collecting.
3. I am really torn here. I love the look of the cards, but there is no way I would ever buy a pack. I'll buy or trade for the individual cards I want. The most expensive pack/box I will ever buy is Certified. But I do have a real problem with where the hobby is going. It is really hard to find a pack of sports cards for less than $1 anymore. We have to look to our roots, most of us started collecting when we were kids. I venture to say you never had a $100 allowance. lol With one word, I believe we have ruined the hobby for youngsters and collectors on a budget and that word is: "value".

1: Wanted to buy Mcdonalds cards, they were not available at this moment so I made a little research on the internet about hockey cards and I started to buy box.
2:18
3: Huge thrill but way too fast. Already bought a book of superlative, was cool but 3mins later it was already over. I prefer to buy product like Score at 30$ for 36packs. Can still hit some huge stuff and take more than 5mins to break.

1. How did you start collecting?
When I first moved to Canada (from England) at 7 years old, my friends at school were collecting and watching hockey so I obviously dove right in. The Penguins were my favorite team, mainly Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Tom Barrasso (watched the Pens win 2 consecutive cups). We used to trade cards on the upper level of our barn where we made a fort. I lived next door to a Becker's convenience store where they sold cards and panini stickers. Those were the days!
I gave up the hobby in my teen years and only kept one card, my 1991 Score Mario Lemieux which was personally signed (way better sig in person). I re-started collecting about 5 years ago and I remain true to my favorite team!
2. How old were you when you started collecting?
As stated above, 7 years old... 20 long years ago, haha!
3. What's your opinion of these $100+ packs?
Give and take really. Once in a blue moon I (or my wife) will treat me to some high end stuff. Sometimes you rip a knockout punch and sometimes you glance off of the chin and get knocked out yourself, LOL! There are some nice cards out there, and like any endeavor it takes money to make money. I'd rather gamble this way because anything I don't collect can be traded and at the end of the day I always have something to show for the money spent. Everything's a gamble.

1: One of my best friends was a Felix Potvin fanatic. He often went to the local Dépanneur to buy some packs. One day he got me to buy one and that one pack got me addicted!
2: First year of high school, so I was around 13.
3: Absolutely no problem with them. They're a lot more risky, but the payoff can be incredible and the quality and look of the cards you get out of these packs is usually really good.
Now as the person who asked those questions, aren't you obliged to answer them?

1) High school buddies introduced me to some RCs in the 90s.
2) I think 14 or 15. Can't remember what year exactly, but it was in the mid-90s.
3) $100 packs are great. The hobby needs to cater to the older crowd. My only problem is the oversaturation of products out there, especially with Panini now in the mix.
