    Is it just me?

I'm new to the site, well if you call new 1 month. Love the working site (hating on beckett's joke tech.). Still, I have found it hard to get started here. First I've gotta post 10 threads before i can do anything. No offense but I'm very busy and i find 10 threads allot for someone whose maybe posted 30 in his lifetime. I am computer literate, I use windows and office all the time and I trade on beckett, sell on ebay and craigslist. I just find that the myriad of fules ( the posts, then there was this problem with my Intro page not being compleate, so they suspended trading privaliges until they can verify my adddress, in a home i just bought, then there is the fact that people use a million different ways to list inventory. There is the site's inventory, the stores, photobuckets, beckett, personal web site lists, people who email their lists of wants and haves). Is it just me or do we need some simplicity and continuity. Don't get me wrong i want to be here i want to hang, just making some suggestions and observations. For example my girlfriend who is starting to loathe hockey cards because of how long it takes me to do the simplest things on beckett, it's sooooooo slow. Anyway she was overwhelmed at this site, the rules postings, threads, different sections, inventories, and she is very computer lit. I have had an easier time then she as i have an intreat in the sites functions. Hope things become easier.By the way i do applaud the speed and functionality of the site, it also seems very ambitious. Don't get me wrong it's clear you've got a great thing here, just a bit tough for a casual user to jump on and start trading right away which is what i wanted, i'll keep trying might actually pull a deal off in month 2 or 3.

believe me bud, its the best trading site on the web, im a member to 4 others and this has the mopst people and the easist people to deal with, and the mods are excellent, i dont really do the inventory, you dont have to, but it is nice to have a nice tradepage linked in your sig like i do. scf is by far the best,
My main focus is anything pre 88-89 hockey and autographs.

i have over 15000 hockey cards for trade or sale.

Ok, admin stuff out of the way, let me try to answer a few of the concerns you have

The profile information is used when a trade is made here on SCF. What this helps with is getting information to you once the deal is agreed to without having to send an email or PM, giving shipping information then accidental deleting it, etc. Its all available at the Trade Manager itself.

As for the inventory system, if you choose to use it, great. If not, thats fine too. Many members choose to use photobucket, google docs, etc. for their inventory. The tools are there to help you, if you choose to use them.

By all means, if you have questions about the site, PM a member of the staff and/or ask another member, the majority of members will not have an issue with answering a question.

    Welcome to SCF!

The rules are there for a reason. It's usually because some yahoo from years past started screwing people around. The trade manager may be overwhelming, but comes in handy when you get scammed, and yes, it still happens. To be honest, the only problem I have with this site is the Must-Send-First rule being set too low at 20 trades. I say it ought to be 50 trades before the tag is removed. I personally like the rules and restrictions (and prefer more restrictions actually). I wouldn't hang around this site this long if it was too lax.

Whenever you join a new community there is always an acclimation period to get into the groove and find your way. Ten posts is a fairly easy mark to reach, and I see that you've already topped it. With all the various forums and threads and points of interest, there's always a place for new ideas and input, and we definitely welcome it.

The rules and guidelines of the forum are there because they need to be there. While there are some details that one always needs to be mindful of, for the most part if you use your common sense, are respectful of your fellow community members, and bring a positive attitude to the boards you'll find that you are acting well within the rules. It's a pretty easy place to navigate without getting too bogged down. For your trade threads, etc., just go with what works best for you. You don't need to have a bucket and an Inventory and a google spreadsheet and five threads with all your wants and an email list. Pick what works well for you, and the rest will flow from there.

Enjoy the site, and see you around the boards!

Welcome to SCF! Although you may think some of the rules are a little complecated here, I am on a few other websites who are much more stricter. Such as one of the sites I am on I can only post one thread EVER in the trading section, I have to cram everything in one thread! This site also has the most people on it and so far the friendliest :)

Sorry, Mr. Ozzie, I don't agree with changing it over to 50. I'm an honest trader. I don't make very many trades mainly because I don't have as much as most of you guys do, but I don't agree that I should be penalized because of that. SCF is a great place to be, but I find it hard to break the ice. There seems to be a barrier between the newbs and the folks who have been here for a long time when it comes to trades. I can already tell that anyone who has a large assortment of The Cup cards will not accept to trade with me and that really sucks. I can appreciate that the new folks have to earn your trust, but 50 trades? The 20 rule is already quite unappealing to me and if it's going to take even MORE to get that "newb" sticker I seem to have off my forehead, I won't be sticking around for long and I'll keep my cards to myself.

    Argh. My 2 cents.

I agree with cardscardscards on this. 20 is a large number for some people. Each person is different in their trading habits so bumping this to 50 would all but shutout someone that is looking to get started. This hobby can not afford shutting out potential traders.
