Sticker autos?
I went to a card show tonight. I was chatting with one of the dealer who was in my fantacy football league last year and having a great time. He pulled out a Mickey Mantle autographed card that he had picked up and it was cool to see. To be honest it was only the fourth Mickey Mantle auto that I have ever held in my hands. The price was way to high for my tastes. After chatting for awhile and looking at some other cool items like a Randy Couture auto numbered out of 25 he asked who I collected. I think he already knew and said he may have a great Reds cards for me. I was thrilled when he said he had an autographed, jersey, bat numbered Barry Larkin for $50! I was so looking forward to seeing this card. $50 did not sound bad as Barry is a favorite of mine and I do not have a certified card of him at all. He pulled out the card for me and I was done at first glance. The design was great, it did have a jersey and bat part inserted in the card, but also a huge shiny silver sticker with the autograph on it! OMG why ruin a card with a sticker? Am I the only one who is upset with the growing number of sticker autographs and just how horrible they look? How long will a sticker stay on our cards anyways. Will there be a time that we have to attempt to glue the autos back on our cards? I just do not understand!

I absoutely hate them. Which is one of the reason I enjoy TTM so much. Maybe it is knowing that the player actually put pen to your card and more than likely handled it.
When you have a card with sticker autograph signed by say, Derek Jeter I find it to be not true. You actually have a sticker signed by the Jeter. I don't care if the card is numbered 1/1. In reality it is not because he signed thousands of stickers. I guess what I am trying to say is twhen it comes to sticker autographs, the card is irrelevent in my opinion.

go through the trading card forums and you'll quickly realize that EVERYONE hates them
ive been told the reason they use the stickers is because its supposedly quicker to get signed and easier to ship a few sheets of stickers vs a few hundred cards.
either way, i find them ugly and distasteful on low print cards, but on cards that they print 1000's of, i dont really mind as much...but yeah, if i had a 1/1 patch/jsy/auto, id expect the auto to be hard signed

Dont care for them at all. Think they are ugly. quik story.. Im a Colts collector & got an incredible deal on here in the football forum on some colts autos. Scans looked incredible, 2 of the players i needed in the lot were Marvin Harrison & Reggie Wayne, autoed cards, Long story short, got the cards & the stickers stand out so much on them, really dont care to even look at them. I'll keep them for my colts PC but would look so much better on card. also, the wayne is missing pen strokes because when he signed the sheets of stickers, went past the sticker onto the sticker above & it just looks tacky.
My other passion is collecting NASCAR & i dabble in collecting cards, not as much as diecast but i have collected some autos & its great what Press Pass does for the fans that collect NASCAR. All ( with the exception of Premium ) Press pass series they release through out the year have autos on card. Just looks so much better..

I don't really collect cards, is there a photo that someone can post. Honestly I can't imagine an autographed sticker on a card.

Yes, sticker autos bug me, as i think they ruin the look of the card (with a few exceptions) These days, i only try and buy on-card autos, but those keep getting scarcer and are more expensive....

There are really two kinds, so here are both.

There is the foil looking sticker like discussed by the OP or the clear sticker like my Verlander here.

I collect lots of certified stuff, they don't bother me as much. It's understandable in some cases, but for scrubs and 7th round draft picks signing only stickers is a little silly. It can be done nicely, or horribly. I'm indifferent I guess.

I dont mind stickers as long as thet look subtle, like some of the ITG stuff, but i agree with MMALPEDO01 when it comes to cards that are 1/1's, and other low numbered stuff, I mean how can it be much more valuable since its the same sticker on a card that sells for a coupel of bucks.
A few years ago I remember seeing a company selling stickers specially made for IP and TTM autos, I thought it was a cool idea as an alternative for an index card when you dont have anything for a player to sign. Here is the companies site http://autograffix.undawareness.com/ though I'm sure it you were to buy 1"x2" clear mailing labels it would work too. I know I would love them beacuse when graphing junior hockey you never know when you may run into a scout, former player, or just a player who doesnt have any cards but has a very good chance of getting some when they make the pros. I also wonder though what they would do to the card after the sit over time.
