10-11 UD Buybacks
Just got a retail box of 10-11 Upperdeck series 1 and got a buyback card, a UD 08-09 masterpiece #3 lady bing, eged color is brown.
Whats the info on this card? Whats its value? Did I just get a dud card again from UD? Anyone esle get one?
Its a nice looking card, but if its worth next to nothing, why did UD even bother putting them in as a buyback card, wish I got a GU instead! :(
Like to hear more feedback............

From what I've been able to tell - they included buybacks from the 08-09 Masterpiece Set (Brown Border), 06-07 Beehive Gold Borders, and 05-06 Young Guns into retail packages of UD Series 1.
What are they worth? I don't think much. As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell the difference between the 'buyback' and the card that was inserted into packs when those cards were new.... other than the fact that you get the buyback certificate along with it.
The 90-91 UD French buybacks in the French packs, for example, have a foil stamp on the card, clearly showing that they are different from what was packed out 20 years ago.
I suppose it adds a little extra value to the packs though.

I still prefer the original 'take an old card, get the signed out of 3 and insert them'

the 90-91 UD french buy backs are limited to 50 copies from what I've heard. I was going after a Kirk Mclean but it ended at $11+!! What a rip off when I have can have ther original for 10 cents.

30 copies, is probably more accurate.
499 cases were made - but I'll round up to 500. You get 2 per box, so 24 per case. That means there are only 12,000 buybacks total.
400 cards in the set (only have buybacks from Series 1) so 400 goes into 12,000 - 30 times.
That does assume that all cards were produced in the same number of copies.
As for the McLean - I guess there were at least two others out there that thought $10.90 extra for the silver foil & buyback certificate was worth it :)
(I think I paid like $5, and then around $20 for each of the two Ranfords from the set. Have a feeling that the other collectors didn't know to look for them when I landed the first one).

They had alot of trouble with damage on these cards and I am guessing they printed more then they packaged thinking they would need to replace damaged cards. Now that they have passed the replacement time they have all these cards sitting around so make them buybacks. My theory......
