need help proving I'm right (I hope)
This is the card I purchased off the bay, got a little excited since it said it was the blank back, however when I got it, I realized that this is actually a cut OPC box bottom (also blank). He clearly states in his auction that it was pack pulled. I've exchanged a couple emails with the seller and let's say he doesn't believe me. Could someone confirm for me that a retro blank back would like look the 2nd link with a blank back. Thanks

Greetings:
It possible it could be a blank back I didnt do last years set I did the `08/`09 and they had retro blank backs so the seller might be right on it without a scan of the back its hard to tell but more likely he speaks the truth thats my take on it good luck on what happens"Any ballplayer that doesn't sign Autographs for little kids Ain't an American. He is a Communist"-Rogers Hornsby on Signing an Autograph as a Manager in 1942 with the St. Louis Browns.

He bought it because he thought it was the actual blank back. This one is clearly not the retro card from the opc set. I'm going to assume it's the box bottom because the photo in the regular retro is completely different. That being said you did purchase the card and didn't do your research. It should've raised red flags that it went that cheap, especially for a player like Ovechkin, and if you own the regular retro.

All box bottom image are different. While we have no image of ovechkin in our main image database we do have one from Carey price box bottom and regular retro, both different and you can even see the bad cut on the box bottom one
Regular retro

Based on the auction description, which states "fresh from the pack", the auction title "blank back" and pics of other blank backs from the set, which are also retro cards, I can easily see how you would assume that the card you were buying was a blank back and not a box bottom (words not mentioned in the auction). I am going to side with you and suggest you file a claim.

The easiest way to tell is to check the back of the card and the card stock.
1. 09-10 blank backs are actually blue:

If your back is white, its a box top.
2. Card stock. A pack pulled card is much stiffer than the cardboard packaging use in the boxes. If you've ever picked up an empty box, you'll notice its rather flimsy. A box top cut card would be flexible. You could bend it quite a bit and no crease would form. However, for a regular card, if you try to bend it too much, its just snap and crease. An easy way to test would be like this.
Cards are 2x3 inches, so place the card on the edge of a flat table so that 1 inch is on the table and 2 inches are hanging free. Then, put something on it like a quarter. The box top card probably won't be able to hold the weight or will bend noticeably. A real card would be able to hold that no problem. Before you test it with a potentially 150 BV card though, try it with any base card first.
If you're still not convinced.
3. Blank backs do not use picture variations. Here's UD's #8 Ovechkin card picture:

As reference, here's a Lou

and his blank back

4. Go box hunting. I suggest you try to troll the youtube video of 09/10 OPC box breaks. maybe you'll find someone showing off the back of the boxes. Although, that will be rare.
GL, I suggest filing a claim if that back isn't blue though.
Cheers,

Thanks everyone, I actually have a complete box panel so I know what I've got. I just wanted confirmation before I file the claim. The seller has been rude and is convinced that he pull the card from a pack, clearly he bought the card and is trying to flip it once he realized what it was, or he just has no idea. Thanks for all the help guys.

52 feedback will not help the sellers ego now after lying like he did. The guy actually has 5 more in question on his page.
