My 4th go around...some thoughts

This would be the 4th go around i have had in the sports card hobby. I was thinking about it at work today and was thinking about some of the things I remember from collecting when I was kid.

1. I remember getting some old (some topps 60 something cards) Reds cards and they did not fit in the pages that I used to have, so my grandfather cut them to fit! Can you think about doing that now adays!!!

2. The best trade I can remember doing was trading a Donruss Jose Conseco RC card for a Cal Ripken Jr. fleer card. Who turned out to be the better player there?

3. There was a hobby shop in my town where all the kids used to hang out trade cards and listen to music all the time. Made some good (and bad) trades there. That was just a fun place to hang out!!

Anybody else have any thoughts??

Always good memories in some of the cards shops going up. They are not there anymore, but the memories standing/sitting in there talking about cards, sports and whatever else was just awesome!
Going to shows in the malls and looking through what everyone had and trading!
Back when I was in high school (mid-90s) I decided to do a show. I barely made my money back on the table but it was a great experience and I remember not being able to sleep the night before!

I miss mall shows too!! Growing up all over the U.S, I went to alot of mall shows! Now, the only mall show I know of is in Phoenix at "Arizona Mills Mall," and that show is infrequent.

The worst trade I remember doing was trading my 94 Flair A. Rod for an '86 Topps Ozzie Guillen RC. Prior to the AZ DBacks, the White Sox were my favorite team and I thought Ozzie was it! I still collect W.Sox but not as much as the DBacks.

Lastly, a friend of the family retired from the Air Force and bought a local card shop. She let me come in 3x a week and clean out the back room and organize all the inventory and I got a pack a day for that. Being 12, that pack was well worth the hard work I put into it. Unfortunately, the shop is long gone but I can say that I "helped out" in a cardshop as a kid.

I remember going to the Flea Market, working for my stepdad about an hour or two, then he gave me money to spend on cards. Had a awesome collection, woulda been worth a solid penny now if I kept them.

Well let see,, I did alot of shows in NJ when i was stationed there, one of the guys in my shop only did hockey and basketball all i did at the time was baseball and football, so we always got 2 tables together, man we made alot of money and had so much fun, i do miss doing the shows. We will watched each other tables so we can walk around and shop ourselfs.. but the best was when i was growing up my best freind and i would buy packs at the local store alot of 84 donruss so we traded to complete our set. we were only 13 at the time

When i got heavy into the Hobby I was like 13 and it was 2002, i had no idea what a jersey card was... i just thought it was the coolest thing to walk down the street to the bowling ally and buy packs of topps for like a buck fifty. My younger brother and i tried to build the set, i dont think we ever finished it but we came close... and that bowling ally made lots of money because of us lol.

My mom memorable pull is a 1990 Fleer mark mcgwire base card.. i was really young and pulled it when he was really popular.. i thought it was his rookie haha. But i was so happy to get the card... i recently had to by a new one off ebay because i couldnt find the one i pulled years ago.. it was in bad shape anyway, me and my brother traded that one card back and fourth a wicked lot. we thought we were going to be rich from it one day. but i bought one on ebay for like 1.09 shipped then bought a wax box of 1990 and got another one!!! now i have 2 being a kid in the hobby is sooo much better then being an adult in the hobby..

I remember I got into cards because of my sisters brother in law. He had boxes and albums in a room it was crazy the amount of cards he had. What was crazier is that when I first started he was a big boxing fan,so he would make me and his brother fight and whoever gave up or got knocked out would ofcourse lose,but the winner would get a set of cards. He would always do basketball sets he had doubles of,my favorite set I won was a set from 94-95 ultra that had glitter background. I thought it was cool. I would go to the gas station down the street from my sisters,and they had a box of nothing but packs at .25 cents each. So we would go crazy,the packs were baseball donruss,leaf,fleer from the 90s,I thought it was the best deals ever. The worst trade I ever did was my kobe topps chrome rc for vince carters topps chrome rc,upperdeck rc,fleer brilliants rc. That was just horrible.

What years were those cards?

2000-2002 was the year I helped him, so from there and before. When Barry Bonds was a hot item and I had some of his RCs and all. Sold alot, gave about 20 to my friend (who still has them)
