So what prospects on the Tigers will make an impact this year?

If you mean 'minor leaguers' from the farm system, none. Jacob Turner would be the only one, but I don't see them having him in the majors yet. If someone gets hurt in the rotation, Andy Oliver will get called up, he may do well, but he's not an 'A list' prospect.
Andy Dirks had a great spring, but nobodys ever heard of him until this spring, including most Tiger fans.
If you mean young guys who could have a breakout year, Phil Coke has looked real good in spring, all his pitches seem to be working great, Scherzer's stuff looks real good again, he's been tinkering with some pitches lately, but I expect big things from him.
Offense looks find, Austin Jackson hopefully hits for more power this year, or atleast keeps hitting right around/over .300, Miguel looks fine, Martinez looks fine, the offense should be alright, better than last year for sure.
Bullpen looks like it could be dominant if they stay healthy (ZUMAYA). Luckily Benoit is gonna be the set up guy regardless, so not having Zumaya start the season won't be a huge blow as it would be if Benoit wasn't in Detroit.
I'm pumped for the season, the team looks good, pitching looks great, as long as this team stays healthy, I see no reason why they can't make a run for a World Series, they have a team that is able to win right now.Hidden Content

Dan thanks for the great answer! I had been looking around and I just didn't see anything online about the Tigers farm system or any players that might make a big impact.

No problem, the farm system is awful. Jacob Turner is high on the overall baseball prospect list, but thats it really. Andy Oliver is alright, and Nick Castellanos, could be a bigtime prospect, but he was just drafted last year.

glad, brennan boesh is going to be the guy i think to answer your question on the first page lol.
Brad penny can really be a good pitcher but his biggest problem is he cant stay healthy.
i know coke is young but looks to be a nice pick up.
in zumayas defence when you throw that hard your arm is going to have problems but it will probally be his last year with us zumaya that is.
i cant spell.
oh yeah why is there no talk about our closer Valverde that guy is a beast no dought.Last edited by MOTORCITY; 03-26-2011 at 07:02 AM.

I don't think I'd call him a beast. He's okay, but he has been really sporadic in his career. Luckily he seems to pitch better in odd #'d years, so hopefully that happens this season.

He was in beast mode until the 2nd half last year where apparantly he pitched hurt (dont know how true it was though)
He's looked great in spring though, i'd defintly rather have him than Jones or Rodney

agreed. I didn't realize he was supposedly hurt last year. I am not doubting his ability to dominate like he did a couple years ago. I'm just not getting my hopes too high.

Yea, I didnt realize it until he wasn't pitching and Rod & Mario brought it up, it'd make sense though if it did happen.

What does everyone else think of the roster? Besides carrying 3 extra outfielders, i'm happy with how the roster looks. Never heard of Villarreal but i'd assume he'll be the 2nd long reliever to go with Thomas. I just don't see how you give 3 outfielders enough ABs, we all know Leyland loves to use that bench, but it hurts Wells/Boesch to have them both on the roster when they wont get ABsLast edited by gladdyontherise; 03-26-2011 at 12:48 PM.
