Getting a Case of a Product
I have always just bought 1-3 boxes of a particular brand every year. I am thinking seriously of buying a case from this year's lineup. I haven't bought any basketball this year, but I might pick up a box of contenders this month.
Any suggestions?
Keep in mind that I am not buying a case to simply list all the hits on Ebay. I might keep all or just ones that I like.
I am also interested in a product that has a base set to put together, so I wouldn't be interested in a 12 box break of a product that only contains 10 cards per box.
Well....any ideas?

My suggestion would be that if you're gonna bust a case, don't open anything from this year......This year's RC crop is terrible and you'll be bound to take a big loss.
otherwise, if you don't mind collegiate cards, wait for the new SPA to come out......from what I've heard, guaranteed Jordan or LeBron auto per caseLast edited by Italy61587; 02-08-2011 at 02:52 AM.

wait or buy absolute case from this year, since you will be able to get a nice kd auto then

i agree with what has been said so far.
i see the results of multi-box and case breaks of stuff like Threads, Rookies and Stars, etc., and just do not really see where the payoff comes whether you plan on selling the contents or not.
with SP Authentic, you are going to have at least one MASSIVE "I'm so glad i did this" moment when you hit the Jordan or Lebron.
I do not know the correlation of Absolute, but I would imagine that a case would generally yield a Durant, Kobe, or both + a possible Wall. Couldnt argue with that really, but it depends on how much you value Kobe/Durant vs. Jordan/Lebron.
Those seem to easily be the best bets thus far. I would probably go with SPA because I hate how Panini does the inserts and parallels, but couldn't really blame someone for preferring Absolute either. I am considering buying a box of each eventually, for what it's worth.

I busted a case of 08'09 SP Authentic wayyyyy back, it's the only case I ever busted and have no regrets. It's probably going to be a lot more now compared to what I paid for it years ago... I STRONGLY DO NOT recommend buying a case of Panini.

Out of curiosity, why do you strongly recommend against a case of a Panini product?

Personally, I just HATE Panini and I WOULD NEVER ever bust a case of ANY Panini basketball product. I feel their products are put together poorly & fast. Just the quality of their cards in general feels very cheap to me. Their product design is already tired & boring, and what is this...their second year in the basketball card industry?? They have too many redemptions and it does not seem they honor their redemptions abruptly (I know this from personal experience). Their cards come damaged before you even open your pack/box, thats just unexcusable. Bottom line is, I feel they're crap cards will not hold any value down the road unless it's of a certain player like Blake Griffin or Tyreke Evans for the sole reason that their only company who could've made basketball cards of them during their rookie year. I've finally pulled a Kobe panini auto and it was a redemption, redeemed November of last year. I don't sell or trade but if I don't like the card design then I'll probably sell that Kobe auto and I'm being hopeful to get at least a $100 for it. Also, if it's on-card or not will make up my mind....
hope this helps ya out, but in the end, do what's best for you.
