NHL Hands Out Suspensions, Fines for Penguins-Islanders Brawls

Let's keep this thread devoid of the silliness from the GDT, please.

This will be updated as the evening goes on and all announcements are made.

Eric Godard will be getting an automatic 10-game suspension for leaving the bench during a fight.

It is possible that Zenon Konopka will be suspended for coming onto the ice for the purpose of instigating a fight.

In-person meetings will be held with 3 Islanders: Matt Martin, Trevor Gillies, and Konopka.

No word on any suspensions for the Penguins other than Godard.

Montreal Gazette writer Mike Boone had a great quip about this: "NHL looking at Pittsburgh-Islanders tape: Expect suspensions, since Colin Campbell's son wasn't involved"

Do you think they will get the suspensions figured out prior to the Islanders/Buffalo game on Sunday at 3pm? Or will they anounce them after that game?

They said during the intro to HNIC that they'll be announced tonight. I'm guessing I'll hear all about it during one of the intermissions.

i noticed that nhl.com never said anything about the brawls on there site do you think that they dont want to promote it (bad way to say what im trying to say).

second nhl.com has nothing said on their site about the suspensions how are you finding out?

They were talking about it on Hockey Night in Canada's pre-game tonight. TSN also has some preliminary info.

I don't care about Pens or Isles but I thought NYI's Gilles and Martin should get a few games and Haley should get at least as much as Goddard (probably will not) as his heroic rush against the Pens Goalie half his size caused Goodard to leave the bench. I grew up on Probert and Kocur so I don't mind a scrap now and then but that entire game was ridiculous.

Three players have been suspended for their roles in an on-ice altercation on Friday between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders.

Penguins enforcer Eric Godard has been suspended 10 games, while the Isles' Trevor Gillies has been suspended for nine games and the Isles' Matt Martin for four games. There is also a $100,000 fine for the Islanders.
