Al Kaline Broke My Heart
I sent him a SASE, nice long fan letter, $5, and a card requesting an autograph. Today in the mail box was a letter from him and my heart jumped out of my chest! I was SO excited. I opened the envelope and my card was unsigned and my $5 bill was chopped into 3 pieces. I know it wasn't an accident as it appears the $5 was cut with scissors. I don't even know what to say...
Just so sad right now...

That sucks. At least you can tape the 5 back together. Wonder why he would cut it up? Thought he was a good TTM'er

Wow! I don't believe he would do that nor do I think he did. Where did you send it to and where was it post marked from? I have in the past received my 5 dollars back from him and an unsigned card. I simply sent 10 the next time and he signed. Also, I just received a success from him. I sent to his home but the return was from Florida. I think he has a house down there in the Winter.
I just really think he has better things to do that cut your 5 dollar bill in 3 pieces. Had to have been someone else.

Yeah, mine was postmarked from Florida as well. I don't want to believe it either, but it is clearly cut. I'm not saying it was him, but someone got a hold of it. I'm just so bummed. It was my first TTM attempt and I absolutely adore Mr. Kaline. I'm not some ebay guy, I wanted this to give to my father who introduced me to Al Kaline and baseball and I wanted to pass it down to my kid one day. It's just such a bummer...

Send me your address and I will send you one of mine.

Thanks, but you really don't have to do that. The reason I was so excited is because I was hoping he enjoyed my fan letter and was signing it just for me. That's the part of TTM that I was most looking forward too. :(

It never hurts to try twice. I would send ten and try again. You just never know what happened before but if it happens again then you can probably chalk it up as a loss.

Yeah, I might give it another try...

I would retry, but I feel that the whole chopping up the money thing was a message to "not send again," or something? I'm a college student and I can't keep having the little money I do have chopped up haha.
