My sister took my room after I left in August. When I came back this weekend for the first time since christmas, I was back in my old room, but my sister got my bed. Anyways while just sitting in my room, I realized a bunch of my autographs were missing. So I begin to look around and I stumble upon a box under my sister's guinea pig's cage (as for why it's in my room i have no clue) that has written on it, *sports cards *game tickets *hats. So I move the guinea pig and open the box.

What I saw inside just broke my heart. All my autograph baseballs were just thrown into the box (literally, a couple of the cases they were in were upside down) along with all the tickets i have collected since i was about 8. And a few dozen cards I was unable to bring with me to my dorm.

I was upset for two reasons 1. although the balls were in cases damage had been done/ Those were some of my biggest baseball autographs had gotten IP (Johan Santana, Joe Nathan, Joe Mauer, and Justin Morneau). 2 of the signatures are now faded (mauer and johan) and the other two have marks on them. The 2nd thing that was upsetting to me and more upsetting for me was the fact that that who ever packed the box just threw the autographs in the box like they were nothing of importance (they are important to me).

I, at first, was really upset at my mom, but did not tell her. I later realized that the hand writing was my, 15 year old, sister's hand writing. Although I highly doubt she acted alone (knowing her she just wrote on the box after it was packe), I am very upset at her and my mom. I will be confronting both of them about it tomorrow. I left most of my autographs at home, to prevent them from getting damagedbut they did any ways. Im not so upset about the tickets and cards, since the tickets were undamaged, as weremost of the cards.

For me it's not even the fact that the stuff got damaged, but that someone could be so careless with stuff that they know is important to someone else. My mom has never been real supportive of this hobby, growing up she would rarely bring me to signings, buy me cards, or bring me to events (and when she did we never got there early enough to graph) and such. She would even tell me all the time growing up that i was wasting my time and money.

I mean most of what I have collected, i have worked by myself to get so to see it damaged is hard. This is just more proof that my mom (and sister) dont care/support my hobby still. Im sorry for such a long rant, and im not trying to sound ungrateful for everything my mom has done for me, and stuff, but i figured i needed tovent and that someone on here (maybe a few of you) could relate to the story or situation. Your story made me very mad. I feel for you brother, I hope everything turns out better. You should tell your parents and sister that they need to buy you new autos from the ones that were ruin. A Johan signed baseball is like a $100 bucks...start shelling out I would say to your sister.

Sorry to read your bad news though. They better give you an apology at least.

yeah man that sucks, sorry to hear that happened. Nothing is accomplished by just going crazy and calling out family members, so be firm and tell them how you feel, but try not to fly wildly off the handle or you'll regret it later. Family is more important than graphs.

Still, like I said, in my opinion they wronged you and disrespected your possessions, so you have to tell them how they made you feel, just be careful how you do it.

I would make who ever did this to your collection I would have them pay you for all the damaged goods and make them give you a apology and if they don't give you that do something to the stuff they care about and if they complain you tell them that you are just treating there stuff like they treated yours.

Each year I went away to college I knew people would be in and out of my room for one reason or another. This was all before I started graphing. Everytime I would leave though I would have everything meaningful/valuable either put away or secured so that if my parents came in to open/close a heating vent or clean a window or for whatever reason something wouldn't get bumped or knocked off/around.

I did that on the knowledge about 1-2 times a month somebody may be in my room. In your sister's defense she got your room and your stuff was just left there. Packing it in a box to save for you is actually a pretty kind thing. Those outside of graphing don't realize the damage a signed ball can get or just how fragile some items are and so they may not have really thought twice of just packing it as you would any common item.

Tough break and I hate to hear it but they may not have gone out of their way to mess up your stuff.

Remember that they are family and much more important than stuff! It is heartbreaking, but knowing that they were important to you who should have packed them up for safe storage? You are going to college and just learned a lesson in life and that is should something be important to you it is your job to take care of it. Do not be upset with your family as they most likely did not understand how strongly you felt about those items. Your mom probly felt that they were things you grew out of like the posters on the wall. I would suggest learning from your mistake and take care of your items better. I remember when my daughter was young and I had an 800 count box of autographs scattered on the floor as I was soting them out. She was a toddler an spilt her grape cool aid on a section of them when I had stepped to the bathroom. I was not upset with her as it was my fault for not picking them up. To be honest I was happy that most of the coolaid hit my cards and the rug they were on and not the carpet. What can you say things happen and rarely are they done with the intent to hurt you.
