I would really like to see the ins and outs of this poll; I would like to see their data and who they sampled. I highly doubt that many NHL Hockey fans would like to see fighting taken out of hockey. There is a big difference between asking hockey fans from Canada about fighting in hockey and asking Canadians about fighting in hockey.

They need to only interview people that support the NHL. Interviewing Housewives that watch soaps, and kids that are Geeks doesn't count.

If you don't watch and support, NHL Hockey then you don't get a vote. Simple as that.

When Canadians do a survey, they make a point of interviewing everybody, including the blind. Do us a favour, make it logical. Stop interviewing women that don't even know the sport exists.

Couldn't agree more with they guy writing the article: The poll was a loaded one. They interviewed random people, not hockey fans.

They should have included the question: How many NHL games have you watched this year? Becuase you'd find that the majority of fans who have watched 2 or more, would not support a ban on fighting.

Likewise, people who don't watch it..... they typically think it's too violent, and fighting should be banned. That's normal around here.

I am a hockey fan and I think fighting needs to be gone. None of the other major sports allow it so why should we? it's outdated and almost a little sad...especially the "staged" fights. Don't get me wrong, I love a good scrap but if my blood lust kicks in I go watch some UFC. It's an archaic part of the game that needs to be taken out. Just my opinion though, I fully understand that I am in the minority on this topic.

Don't know which one I'd vote for if i were to vote. Fighting just makes the game a little more exciting, and intense. If there was no fighting it would be a little more dull imo. But then again, I would not support fighting because of the injuries, and the blood.

I completely agree with everything you said here(minus the UFC, I'm just not a huge fan of violence altogether). Fighting is an artifact of a former time. Most teams don't carry an enforcer any more unless that enforcer can play(meaning skate, shoot, pass, etc.) and not just fight. What happened with Pittsburgh and the NYI was a sideshow and a disgrace to the game. It sends a poor message to kids picking up the game, and it reflects poorly on the sport we love throughout the athletic community. The game has evolved, the safety and well being of players is looked into now, more than ever, and I think it's time to let go fighting go. Just 2 cents...

and if there was no fighting there would be no policing which in turn would create more devastating injuries and give the NHL a reputation as a cheap shot league, which they already are trying to fight against

The day fighting leaves the NHL, is the day I will stop watching the NHL. Don't get me wrong i don't watch it for the fights alone, but it would ruin the game imo. You aren't forced to fight its a choice. Someone drops the gloves you can smile and skate away... no one forces it.

The NHL has changed to much in the last 10 years for the worse IMO. Shootouts, 4 on 4, instigator rule...etc.

Why change the best game in the world when there is nothing wrong with it??

Fighting is the only thing that keeps the game honest. Imagine the type of Anarchy that Matt Cooke would employ without it.

Having punks get tuned in occasionally balances things out nicely in terms of talented player being able to peddle their wares without fear.

lol, you guys are funny, especially the hypothetical scenarios where players are running around taking liberties with anyone they want, oh wait, from where I sit, this happens already.

Fighting is currently allowed, this sure doesn't stop the Matt Cookes of the game from being dirty players.


And if change is such a hard thing to swallow maybe we should go back to the days of the no forward pass? lol....gotta keep it real.
