It's funny, when the Habs dumped Kostitsyn for Ellis & Boyd, and subsequently let Ellis walk many Habs fans were apoplectic that we let such a potentially good backup goalie go free.

My question is why would Anaheim deal a backup for a guy that could be a starter, especially with Emery being called up yesterday? I wonder if Hiller's injury is worse than previously reported.

As for Tampa, they are simply clearing the deck for Tokarski to come in next season, IMO.

Rumor is here in oc that hiller may have vertigo and maybe out for the rest of the season. That's y we get Ellis now to play and then back up emery when he's ready

Probably not next season for Tokarski. They are getting rid of his contract so they can do one of two things next year. Go out and get one of the good UFA goalies (Vokoun, Nabokov (if he isnt tolled), Bryzgalov if the Coyotes cant sign him, etc etc). OR Sign Roloson and then grab a cheap backup for the year.

What this really does is clear cap room to where the backup isnt getting paid 1.5M next season. Which gives Yzerman even more leeway to make some nice UFA signings next year. Dont be surprised if you see Richards back with the Lightning next year. ;)
