US to Canada customs question
Hey all
I have a question for those Canadian buyers who get boxes shipped from the US.
Do you get charged customs or other fees when it gets to your door? Do you have to pay them? And usually how much is it in relation to what the product is worth?
I haven't bought in a while, but have about $45 worth of boxes comming in and want to know what to expect.
Thanks

It all depends on the seller and how they fill in the customs form - generally SCF members will mark gift which means we Canadians don't have to pay the taxes (but it's always important to agree to that when trading/buying and have it noted in the Trade Manager).
eBay sellers and online retailers will generally mark as "goods" which will require taxes to be collected when it is delivered to your door. The amount is based on what they (the seller) states as the "value" of the item on the customs form. I think the taxes are somewhere around 13% of the purchase price (or stated value) but I may be a bit off on that. I always ask the seller if they intend to mark as "goods" or "gift" so I know if taxes will be collected and I can keep that in mind when bidding/buying.
Hope that helps!
