    Hockey Card Shows

I was thinking about going to a card show in my area next month, but I've never been to one before and i need some info about them. Also, i was wondering if i could bring my own cards to sell/trade there too.

Typically it's fine to bring cards to the shows, for trading & selling with the dealers - just don't try selling to the other people attending.

What other info are you looking for?

Well, each show is different, so what sort of info are you looking for?

There will likely be a wide assortment of sellers, in that there will be guys with current products, some with vintage, and some with a good mix of the two. Most will likely be looking for half-book price, and if you buy more they'll be more inclined to haggle and cut you a deal.

Golden rule #1 - never ever approach a seller that is selling a card at X dollars and say "I can get it on eBay for this much..." They will rightly tell you to go get in on eBay.

It never hurts to bring along a few traders but don't take it personally if people aren't willing to swap. They've got table fees, gas fees, lunch, etc. to pay for so they're primarily looking to sell. You may have to give a little more on the value end to entice them to take a trade - it has little benefit for them to take your $20 card for their $20 card unless it's a PC item for them.

Generally unless you book a table, it's somewhat uncouth to try and sell cards. The guys behind the tables have to pay a fee to set up so when someone comes along looking to make money off of them or off other people who are looking to buy, it's a bit disrespectful. If you've made an arrangement with someone beforehand and are just making the transaction there, that's usually acceptable.

    That's a good little primer.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
