Bowman for Rc's, Many Topps brands, and UD..considering you can pay $200/pack they better be worth something,eh, Donruss has some nice product..

nubar- Donruss has cards that have a wide variety of players and many legends and their autos and GU will probably hold pretty good value. And Bowman if you want a lot of good rookies.

I just have to say ky024- You get an average of 2 GU-Autos per box, thats not too much for $60 boxes, I wouldnt say Prestige if your looking for GU even though their inserts are the best.

I think the more important and correct question for a beginner to ask himself is: "Would it be okay if I got stuck with this?" In other words, buy what you would be happy to collect and not worry if its value goes up or not, or whether or not you can sell it.

This is what I have observed year after year after year based on my own experience in this hobby:

    Modern Rookie Card Pattern #1
    1. Hot new rookie card type comes out
    2. Price rises card due to everyone hoarding them, creating a "perceived scarcity"
    3. Card is slabbed and has inflated price (the card is in the SAME condition as getting one out of a pack you just bought)
    4. Five years later, price fluctuates due to the type of season the player had
    5. Seven years later, prices have risen/peaked due to player's star quality in playoff/championship game(s)
    6. Ten years later, prices drop as a new batch of hot new rookies enter the scene; card is obtainable below peak price from a few years ago

    Modern Rookie Card Pattern #2
    1. Hot new rookie card type comes out
    2. Price rises card due to everyone hoarding them
    3. Card is slabbed and has inflated price (the card is in the SAME condition as getting one out of a pack you just bought)
    4. Five years later, price fluctuates due to the type of season the player had
    5. Seven years later, prices have dropped dramatically due not living up to the hype
    6. Ten years later, prices drop off the radar as a new batch of hot new rookies enter the scene. This once star card has now become a common.

I'm not saying I know more than anyone. I'm just stating my own humble opinion based on my own experiences from 1992 to present in hopes that those who are new to the hobby don't make the same mistakes.

Well there it is none of us could have said it better! Excellent explaintion. But I would like to add this! Do not buy one card, pack or anything card related if you are doing it for the money! This hobby is just that A HOBBY! Yes some people have card stores and make a living off it. But too many people hurt this hobby because of those questions. Pick a player, team or company to collect and collect them. You'll find out all too soon if you are one of those people wanting money out of it go buy lottery tickets. Have fun I collect Barry Bonds. Take a look at my site and see all the different brands, sports and sorted collection I have to trade. Its about trying to find that last card you need to finish a set or that one game used jersey card that has eluded you, that you must have. This drives our hobby! We as collectors determine what the cards are worth. Not a magazine, shopping network or auction site! Find your niche and go with it. If you can't have fun then this might not be for you, but once you start and meet these great guys and girls! You find out who they collect and the love some people put into collecting then you too will be a great collector! You hear it all the time in sports movies do it for the love fo the game? Do it for the love of collecting! Welcome and happy trading!
