As far as tips go, One thing that I have always done when making public speaches is to pick just a few maybe 4 or 5 people from different areas of the crowd and make eye contact with just them and just speak as if you were having a normal conversation with just those few people. It always took the edge off for me and didn't make me feel overwhelmed with the ammount of people in the room. Public speaking can be very nerve wracking and sometimes even more so when it is a short speach because you don't really have time to get into a rythm and calm your nerves as you go along. Just have confidence in yourself and don't worry yourself before hand with all the what if scenarios. Just get up there with confidence and speak just like if you were talking to a group of friends or family members and i'm sure you will do just fine. Good luck, I'm sure everything will turn out great for you.......*Ryan*

Since you say it is a short speech then that's good.First thing make sure you have your speech with you if reading one. Then take a deep breath acknowledge the crowd (good Evening) and start talking, try not to look at them look around while giving it ,people assume your looking at them then .The main thing is to take your time don't rush through the speech because that causes studding, which in turn causes nerves.Enjoy the moment and let us know how it went ...

As a pastor who speaks regularly in public the best tip I ever get was to never get flustered if you make a mistake. Most people will not notice or even know it was a mistake.
