And that is why byu would not get me as a recruit if I was a player. In today's society their standards are kind of out dated, but these players knew the honor code before they signed on for the program,so basically it's their own fault.

Just to add, today's society isn't the most "put together". But that's another convo
In this case, I only agree with them for standing by their rules and values. In a day where you can compromise just about any belief with a dollar, it's nice to see someone stick to their guns. This gives some finality unlike other violations ie Cam, Bush, Rose, etc that just exposes a lot of ugliness about today's society. They will definitely lose recruits, but knowing that makes their stance even more honorable. If you don't stand for something.........

First off I dont think it will necessarily lose recruits over this... the people going to BYU arent exactly the same people being recruited by USC, Miami, or Tenessee.... People going to BYU know exactly what they are getting into and this isnt the first case of discipline based on the honor code at BYU...
Second, I like that BYU stood up for the code. I dont necessarily agree with it but like Steve said... That is why I dont go there.

BYU's standards are not outdated! It is the individual that doesnt want to live up to the Moral standards that BYU has set that is outdated. I attended BYU and it is one of the Schools that people want to attend.

Given the choices you have as a college athlete the standards are outdated. Listening to some of the honor code no way would I want to go there but like you said, there are some people that live by the code anyways and it draws them in. I am just saying they are never going to recruit high level athletes on a regular basis when they have the standards they have. They are a great story this year but they just couldnt compete on a Big East, Big Ten, ACC level year in and year out with the rules they have set in place.

These guys are 23-24-25 years old... they are not exactly right out of high school... so yeah maybe they cant recruit but they get to spend 6-8 years in college and play at an old more mature age.. they should be ranked most years... I dont think you need to have a Moral Code to have high standards.. but it does make people feel all warm and fuzzy when its attached to religion...BYU is outdated, but thats never going to change....

BYU apparently has rules, and you have to follow those rules.
Then again, to completely kick a guy off the team for an offense seems a little much to me. A punishment should have been given, I'm sure, but not that extreme.
It's hypocritical. I'm religious (not mormon) and I understand that everyone has their own moral values, but everyone falls short of their moral values from time to time. The officials and AD at BYU even fall short of those values, so should they lose their job? I dont think so.
So why kick a kid off the team? Because you're older and have authority and can do that? No one is firing you when you mess up, are they?
It'd be different if it was a criminal offense or going against BYU's rules a few times, but then again I dont know the whole story.
