BGS Grading
For those who have mailed cards to Beckett to be graded, I was curious if your experience was a positive one or not. What I mean is, was it worth the $10 or so per card to have opinion of its quality?
I'm considering sending about five of my best looking Scottie Pippen rookies. I have 17 of them that I've picked up over the years, and there are a handful that are pretty well centered and have nice corners.
I've read on other thread that if it's not graded an 8.5 or better, then it wasn't really "worth it".

I don't care for beckett grading at all. I subscribed to their magazine a few years ago and the included a coupon for 2 "free" gradings. It was "free" for the grading but they charged $13 for the shipping and handling. I send in Alonzo Mouring and Derrick rose rookie cards that were in pretty decent shape and both of them came back graded as a 4. What a ripoff. I will never deal with them again.

You better show us picture of your cards. It is nearly impossible for anyone to ship a modern card with a "4" grade. A "4" grade card is can have a bend corner. Maybe your cards are damaged in shipping to Beckett.
And yes, the price for the grade is not just $10. Shipping, insurance and other stuff add up quickly. I would just buy a BGS 9.5 pippen RC directly. BGS 9 or BGS 8.5 are hard to sell in your case.

Could someone tell me how much this costs? I cannot find anything as far as pricing. Is there a minimum? Discount for multiple cards? Thanks!

there is always specials , like new member or first time grading specials when the card average 5 to 6 each to grade and then you choose which shipping and insurance you want , I personally think it is better to send in at least 10 card and the more the better , there are also grading certificates that peole sell on ebay pretty cheap another way to save a few bucks , now on the guy who got a 4 on his two cards lol , sorry but cant believe that , i agree the card would have to be really damaged to get a four and who would really send in cards that bad love to see scans of these two bgs 4 lol , and last but not least there is a coupon in beckett magazine that gives two cards free gradings if you order a year subscription to beckett grading magazine and it is only 14..99 I think not sure on price but it is a good deal , but if your only sending in 5 cards and they are all the same card (pippen) then I agree you be better off buying a bgs 9.5 on ebay then take the chance of not getting one of the 5 a grade that good ,but ya never know could get a 10 also

I'm not sure what would be more likely...
(a) one of the six out of 1273 9.5s BGS graded Pippen rookies showing up on eBay for me to buy, or
(b) one of my 17 Pippen rookies being at least a 9.0 and me being happy with that.
There are 0 10.0s, 6 9.5s, and 88 9.0s. That means 7% of my 17 should grade 9.0 or higher - that equates to one of my 17.
In other words, I feel like there is a better chance I get a 9.0+ by spending $80 to ship 5 of my best ones to BGS, than I do having one of the 94 9.0+ showing up on eBay and it not costing me $80 or more. Not to mention it would be fun to have owned a 9.5 before it's graded!Last edited by imapippenfan; 03-08-2011 at 11:37 PM.
