The Hockey Hobby needs Boresketball and the NFL to fall flat on it's face in lockout, then you will see cards pickup.

NFL might get the situation in order in time, but BBall is doomed.

UD already weeded out some product this year, they have the right amount of products per year as far as I'm concerned. Why less of what they produce now?

You forget to factor in Panini and ITG. Even if you buy UD exclusively, the reality is that there are now more hockey cards than last year, hence more cards of the same rookies, active players, etc. The only players that are somewhat exempt from this are the ones who signed an exclusivity contract with UD (Gretzky, Orr, Howe, etc).
