Price Point
I've decided to start a Doug Gilmour collection. I know beckett doesn't price all cards but how do you establish a value on a card that is a 1/1 or even 25. I've done some searches of completed cards but some haven't been sold on ebay.
Any help would be appreciated.

The two above posters pretty much sum it up, although you could try doing completed listings searches for similiar cards of players that have similiar values to those of Gilmour.

It's really hard.... and no matter what way you come up with, it will never be exact.
Let's pretend you've got a card #ed /10, it's got a hard signed autograph (i.e. not a sticker) and it's got a single color piece of a jersey.
- What do other Gilmour jersey / auto cards with low print runs sell for ?
That should be pretty acurate.... but you may find that a Jersey / Auto #ed to 10 from The Cup will sell for significantly higher than one from SPx.
- Was do similar players in that set sell for?
Maybe there's a Wendel Clark in that same set, and you've seen it go for $50. Clark's cards and Gilmour's cards sell for about the same. (I'm just making this up as an example) so it would be a safe bet to expect a similar sale price.
It's still really hit or miss though. Collecting Bill Ranford, I've seen HUGE swings in the final price on some cards. It is almost always the same 3 or 4 people that drive the auction price up...... so even though a card #ed out of 10 is pretty rare.... if most of the hard-core collectors of that player already have one, the next one to go may sell for significantly less.
At the same time, especially with cards that have been out of a few years already, collectors may fear that they won't see another one.... and the bidding will go up a lot.
