Is it wrong to own more than one of a specific card?
I was questioned recently about my collecting habits. I thought I would ask the general public.
Do you think its wrong ( in any fashion) for a collector of a player to own more than one single copy of any of his cards? Specifically a short print card.
Example:
Player collector owns one copy of a card that is /10. He then finds two more copies and picks them up as well. So now he has 3 out of the 10 produced.
Is this wrong in any fashion? Is it "not fair" to other collectors of the player that this collector has more than one copy?
I was seriously astounded with the PM I got. So while whatever is said in here wont change my thoughts on the matter or stop me from collecting the way I see fit, I am curious as to the masses opinion on the matter.

If that is your style and you have the $$$ back it up then go for it. That is how you play your hobby. I will always pick up duplicate Bobby Ryan cards if A) It's a deal I can't resist, such as a /10 card for less than $5 or B) Someone wants to trade for a card I have and helps them out, I don't mind an extra Bobby Ryan or two. It also helps to have duplicates to trade other PC collectors because that might be the only way to pick up a card you haven't seen. I've seen a collector here on SCF that has bought 10 of the /99 ICE Bobby Ryan rookies, and then put them up on ebay with 15 Bobby Ryan Cup RC cards at a BIN of $5000. It's nice to know that someone has the $$ to make a collection like that but it made me reliaze that /99 RCs price might have been driven up by one person. It's going to make a PC collector go mad but they can't tell you how to spend YOUR money and there are not rules on how to collect for YOUR hobby.

As long as you're not doing it to "own all the cards so nobody else can have them", its all good.
You have the right to enjoy this hobby in any way you want as long as you don't rip anyone off.
I've seen collectors with all 5 of a /5 set, and together the cards look amazing. If you've got the money to do so, then I don't see how its wrong.
Just remember that this hobby is meant for fun...not greed :D

Nothing wrong at all. Why would there be something wrong?
Like some player collectors go to collect all the plates from different series. Is it wrong to own more than one of the same plate, nope completely not.
People will luck out regardless of their willingness to pay for certain cards. It's almost saying that people can't own all the 1/1 of the player they collect. Same applies although it is not the "same card."
You are free to buy whatever you like and thats how the world works. If you loose the opportunity to by something then you lost your chance.
You enjoy more than one copy of card and you can afford it, why not. Thats the purpose of having short printed cards... not everyone can own one regardless if another person owns more than one copy.

If there was only ten boxes of Smarties in the world and I happened to see 2 of them at my corner store you better believe there would be only 8 left. What if the card company screwed up and sent you two in the same pack, that's happened to me before (I don't think the print run was as low as /10 but still). There are definitly dirtier (not saying you are by any means) things to worry about in this hobby and it sounds like whoever messaged you just has to learn that you can't have every card that you want, it just doesn't happen that way.
Collecting:Leafs Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Conacher, Horner, Broda, Bower, Clark, Gilmour and others.

I've been trying for a long time to get a Zach Bogosian Cup Rainbow rookie /4. It would complete my rainbow, since I have his 1/1 and all the others needed. However, I believe that one guy has all four of the one I want. Do I think it's unfair? Not at all, good for him on putting those together.
I never understand this belief. This isn't a socialist hobby, you should feel free to collect however and whatever you like.

I dont see anything wrong with it either, its not like anyone can stop you from doing it if you find the cards and have the money for it.

I agree that its no problem buying all of a set that is low numbered. Its a great accomplishment i think. I don't understand people who buy a ton of a non numbered card though. Like i met this guy at the national who owned 50+ michael bush contenders cards, all identical. At that point it seems like a waste but with small numbered stuff, no problem.
