Blasters don't normally contain guaranteed hits. If they do, its much longer odds. Say 1 jersey card a box as opposed to hobby which may have 3 or 4 etc.

Not a stupid question at all! Hobby boxes are typically sold at card shops/shows or online wholesalers like Dave and Adams Card World. Hobby boxes are really the "main" type of box that collectors like to open. Blaster boxes are versions sold mainly at retail stores such as Wal-Mart or Toys R Us. They typically contain fewer inserts/RCs/GU than hobby boxes and usually contain around 10 packs or so.

Thank you folks for your answers, think I've got a clearer picture.

So hobby boxes contains the whole series, i.e. cards 1-500 lets say of a base set?

Hobby boxes and blaster boxes contain packs of cards. The hoby boxes are generally 24 packs, and the blasters are 8-10. There is no guarantee you will get a set in the box. You get an assortment of base cards and whatever inserts, jerseys, autos are in the product.

I'm not sure if the companies make factory sets anymore. But you can always find hand made sets on ebay fairly cheap.
For clarity, a factory set is made by the factory and the box generally has pictures of the cards etc. A hand made set is made by opeing packs and sorting the cards into the set.

You can try to get a factory set if any are still made ( i think only a few are) if you want a base set, you might need to bust a few hobby boxes or like sjw said, base sets are listed on ebay from time to time. So a blaster would give you say 8-10 packs, a hobby box would give you say 24-30 packs. A factory set is a sealed base set with no packs.

    Blaster boxes:

    1. Smaller Quantities in packs from 5 to 12 normally

    2. Produced solely for the Retail environment Mass-Merchandise stores like Target, K-Mart, Walmart etc.

    3. Hobby Boxes will only offer the real limited SP cards like 1/1's and #/10, etc. Blasters don't.

    4. Blaster Boxes have much longer odds on pulling a standard Jersey Card or an Autographed card.

    5. Hobby boxes are sold to specific card shops to ensure that they stay in business by providing the best odds on the shortest printed cards and the most rewarding cards in terms of total value.

Not true, I have pulled a 1/1 out of an artifacts blaster. It was a nobody but a true 1/1 (not a eBay 1/1)
