A rainbow means all the variations of 1 card...
Int he CUp Rookies: LEts Says Tavares
Tavares /99 patch auto rookie
tavares /91 patch auto rookie
tavares /25 gold Rookie
tavares 1/1 black rookie
this is his complte rookie rainbow for the CUP
Unless you mean a Rainbow Parallel: for the cup its the card numbered to his jersey number /91..

a rainbow consists of base and all parallels for a set. Each set varies in amount of cards. UD series 1/2 have 3 cards base, exclusives #/100, and HG or spectrum #/10
heres a cup version... Base rookie #/249, jersey parallel #/35, platinum rookie #/25, and 1/1

Just to add a little flavour.
Look at the names that most card companies use to describe their parallel levels. In particular, consider 05-06 artifacts:
regular base
blue
gold (yellow)
green
red
pewter
Put it all together and you have a 'rainbow' or colour parallels.
Also, for the cup in 05-06 Cup, the 1/1 were called:
Black rainbow
And in 09-10, the 1/1 are
gold rainbow
So, to "complete the rainbow" means you also got all the parallels including the 1/1 "rainbow" parallel.
That's how I always saw it at least.
Cheers,
reoddai
