    Paper Type

I was looking to get a few photos printed through AdoramPix. One of which is a real big deal to me since it is a 12x18 photo from my favorite television show (getting to meet the cast and creators).

What type of paper does everyone prefer getting their signatures on? Mostly looking to see what type may hold the signature well I've spoken to one person and they prefer Matte paper. Another prefers glossy...I get my 4x6's done in glossy...

Has anyone had any experience getting a photo that was printed on Lustre or Metallic signed?

    Thanks for any input.

    See darryl-zero's Items on eBay

There is less of a chance of streaks or smearing on matte.

I think Matte holds signature better, but others like glossy. The idea for glossy is that you can remove personalizations via different types of methods. I perfer personalizations and the quality of the sig is what is important to me. I would vote matte every time!

I just recently printed some 16x20's in metallic and luster and they all printed amazing. I haven't had any of them signed yet. Prior to that, I printed all of mine in glossy from AP and they signed fine.

I know a lot on other forums prefer the metallic and luster and speak highly of those.

Actually, removing Sharpie works on matte too.

I am an amatuer photographer, and I've seen the metallic paper. The stuff looks amazing. Just wasn't sure about how a signature would hold.

    However....

I just got a success back from Daniel Craig. He and Christian Bale are my favorite actors. I was lucky to get Craig via venue when he did a broadway show...but it came back completely smeared in silver paint pen. So, I tried again through another addy. I sent a 5x7 and a 4x6. For me, that's a big deal. GOT IT BACK!!

IN SILVER PAINT PEN AND COMPLETELY SMEARED AGAIN! The 5x7 looks like a silver smeared blob. The 4x6 is salvageable. I had to wipe off the personalization since that was the worst of it.

So, my conclusion? I may be switching to matte! After this "incident" and the smeared and illegible Celek return, along with the 1980 Miracle on Ice photo that I essentially have to start over (silver sharpie is wiping right off after each subsquent success).

Just to keep an open mind about things, I am ordering a custom in matte, lustre, and metallic to "test" out. However, the larger items I am ordering now I shall play safe and go with matte!

Thanks for everyone's assistance, and thank you for putting up with this long post.

Are you sure that it's the paper type? Paint pens are tricky little pens, especially if the person doesn't have experience using one.

It sounds like either they aren't waiting until the paint is completly dry before putting it back in the SASE or it could be that they aren't prepping the paint pen good enough prior to using and its blobbing on your photo when they sign it?

Do you send a paint pen wiht your requests? If you prefer silver, any thought of switching to a SRX silver sharpie? I use them on all pictures that need silver instead of a paint pen and they are just like a blue sharpie and don't need time to dry like a paint pen..

    Just thinking out loud!

I only send silver sharpie with my 1980 Miracle on Ice project. Even for a sharpie, it is beginning to wipe off. The other successes I got back were the celeb's paint pen...figure they don't know how to work a paint pen. If I had sent it on matte paper, i bet it would ahve come out okay
