My Goal Realized Again! || Crosby Cup Rookie || Experts, Opinions, and Chat?
When I first started my card collection in 2006, I made it a goal to acquire either one of these cards before I am done with collecting (if that ever happens):
2005-06 The Cup Auto Patch Rookie Sidney Crosby /99
or
2005-06 The Cup Auto Patch Gold Parallel Rookie Sidney Crosby /87
Thus came my original username which I started using on Beckett 5 years ago: thecrosby (symbolizing not only one of favorite players of all time but "the" specific "crosby" card I always wanted). Only recently have I changed it to Yip Collector as it is more suitable for me and my collection. I used to heavy collect in Crosby, but no longer.
... back to the card...
Of course if I were to set this goal and actually be able to achieve it, the Gold Parallel will be perhaps be an easier task on the wallet and the search.
Browsing through eBay today made me realize this goal that I had set 5 years ago again. I have distracted myself with other things throughout these years such as building new PCs, box breaking, and simply spending it on other things that afterwards made me go... huh? I bought that!
I am hoping to be able to achieve this goal by the end of 2011.
It's an expensive card but I'll think I will save up some extra coin that I would usually use in buying "reckless" things or busting products I don't really need to.
Currently there are 0 regular rookies /99 on the eBay and 3 gold rookies /87. These ones range from $4,000 - $4,400 BIN or BO. My question is, how much can I expect a rookie /99 and/or /87 go for? And is it getting close to the right time to buy?
Does anyone have a library of Crosby Cup Rookies /99 and Gold Rookies /87. I would like to refer to the patches.
As well, my particular requirement for the card are:
1. Signature - must not have any smudges and prefer a smooth crisp signature (not like some where the ink seems to be dry in small areas or the "S" is more rectangular)
2. Patch - doesn't matter to me at all. multiple colors are nice but prefer 1-color for the price.
3. Condition - not looking for something that will grade (although that is a bonus). Something along the lines of mint condition card: no creases, scratches, vivid damages. Looking for something would "look" like it would be at least a BGS 8.5 or 9
CURRENT CROSBY FUND AVAILABLE: $1,000
Potential Cards for Sale Towards Fund:
2005-06 Ultimate Rookies Auto Rookie Sidney Crosby /299
2005-06 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Sidney Crosby
+ all bucket items with the exception of my Yip stuff (unless that person virtually trades me the same amount as the Crosby)
(Will most likely sell the two Crosbys above, only when I reach a close enough amount for the purchase of the Cup card)
What do you all think? Worth pursing? or should I go, hey... spend it on something else?
There are many sides to the coin and definitely a variety of stories. Let's hear your opinion.
Thanks for the look and read everyone!Last edited by Yipper; 03-18-2011 at 12:48 PM.

Sometimes you say ''too much for one card'' ... but when you think about that, you spent more during a year buying stuffs you dont need ... just like you said :)

If it's been your goal for the duration of your time in the hobby, you've got to do it at some point and there's no time like the present. Give 'er!
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

If it's been your goal since 2006 to obtain one of the those Crosby cards, I'd say do it if you have the cash.
It's sure to rise in value, also.

I like your thinking Ray. Too bad not enough money man. I would presume it would end over $10k ... that would go towards an apartment hahaha.
...
Thanks for the comments so far everyone! Haha looks really good. And thanks for the link to the archive.
I have a "favorite" in mind for the Gold and it's on the bay right now...
Anyone have idea of the amount I would need to give? I will probably enquire to the ones on the bay but seeing if guys know anything regarding the prices and value.

Was looking at this card... and then I saw this card.
Can anyone tell the difference? They look exactly the same with different numbers. One is 31 and the other is 38.
THESE ARE IMAGES ARE NOT MINE, I AM CURRENTLY WORKING OUT A DEAL AND WOULD LIKE AN OPINION ON THEM. HUGE THANKS!

The patches are identical right down to the stitches. Something doesn't smell right here.
