Question Will There Be A Big Rookie Release This Year?

I have noticed that Panini isn't too big on putting a large number of rookies in any of their sets. The Cavaliers currently have 5 rookies and only 1 has been issued a card from Panini this year; Luke Harangody.

Has Panini even released a card of an undrafted player this year or any of the new Euro-League players that have come over after being stashed away for a year or two?

Seemed like back in the day of Upper Deck and Topps there was just an abundance of rookie cards. You would get autographs of players that the furtherest they ever got in the NBA career was the Las Vegas Summer League.

As a Cavs fans I'm just disappointed as I would like to see some cards of all of our rookies.

I understand what it's like to be a team collector but I find it refreshing to find that companies are only focusing on the rookies that have a bigger chance or making an impact I can't tell you how many no-name rookies I've collected over the years who have never again played professional ball

I agree. There is nothing worse than your big hit of a box being a no-name rookie who has never even stepped foot on an NBA court.

I have to disagree. I collect any and all rookies regardless of if they ever amount to anything. Besides often takes some guys longer to catch on than others. There's nothing better than going through you common bin to find someone who is now a superstar. Think of how it took Drew Brees a few years to turn into the future HOFer he is now.

Maybe they could come out with low end set dedicated to just rookies. No veterans or legends included at all. That way if you are one of the people that does like to collect late round or undrafted rookies it would be the perfect set for you and those who don't can just avoid the product all together and stick to getting the big name players in the other products. Maybe have one or two of the other mid-high end sets include late round/undrafted players just in case one of them does end up becoming a success. I think Rookies and Stars did a good job of including late round/undrafted players. My friend bought a box and his "hit" was a Magnum Rolle redemption. If you are looking to pull guys like that you might want to check that product out. After seeing his break though I knew that is one product I definitely want to stay away from. Odds are that Rolle will never become a force in the NBA. For every Manu Ginobili, Drew Brees or Tom Brady there are thousands of Magnum Rolle, Fran Vasquez and Nick Fazekas.

I agree. I have no use for guys who aren't going to be in the NBA. I'd rather pull an insert, or numbered or sp of a legend or star than a no-name rc

Panini R&S this year had some of the undrafted and 2nd round picks in it...including Tiago Splitter, Magnum Rolle, etc etc. I saw that Omer Asik has some autos out in the new Absolute Memorabilia product. I'm sure the Cavs' rookies will have some cards out soon, especially if Panini makes the "Season Update" product again.

It's too bad that UD has the exclusive NCAA liscence. I remember about 20 years or so when companies like Star Pics, Front Row, and Classic made draft pic cards of every player drafted along with rookie free agents. For this season no one even bothered to make a draft pic set.

I think panini will make cards of players like what you are mentioning if they get more playing time and actually make an impact. for example, bulls center off the bench omer asik (turkish draftee) had no cards released earlier in the year but as the year has progressed and he's played more they've included him in the contenders and absolute set
