How many cards get produced?

Is this public information? Obviously the more they produce the less they are worth. But on average how many get made of a base set, say Topps 2010-11 or even upper deck? 1 million? 5 million? 20 million?

Is this information they keep secret or do they make this info public? I was researching the adrenalyn XL cards and there was an article that said they will produce 5 million for the 10/11 season. But I have no idea if that is more or less then the average run of cards.

For some of the sets you can figure it out by using the odds on the back of the packs. If they are hobby only and you know the odds of a 1/1 and how many they make along with how many packs are in a box and how many cards are in a box and whatnot you can get a very accurate or completely accurate number. The only problem is stuff like base Topps where Topps will release complete sets in Target and Wal-Mart or make special retail blasters and jumbo packs that have completely different odds where you can't calculate it.

It's real funny how panini can produce 5 million of their xl 10/11 basketball but you still cant find any in the entire state of Georgia. We only have xl football which nobody wants.

Well, we know that 2010 Topps football has gold parallels numbered to 2010, and there are 440 cards in the set. If they all have gold parallels (or is it just the veterans/rookies that have parallels?), that's 884,400 cards right there.

I'm not sure what the exact ratio of golds to other cards in Topps is, but I believe it tends to be one in every 36-50 cards, depending on hobby/retail/jumbo. I think retail's 1 in 4 packs (and 12 cards/pack), so let's say 1 in every 48 cards is gold.

Multiplying those numbers together...I get an estimate of roughly 42.5 million cards printed for 2010 Topps. Does that sound plausible?

This is a very good question!

One second let me check my card-o-meter here to dial in how many Walmarts, Targets, etc we have to deliver our precious high quality Topps cards too and I'll come up with a figure as to how many issues are produced, even available on average per perceived collector out there.

And then we'll rewrite Beckett with the modern revolutionary method of coming to a general value guideline and determine then how much these babies are worth. Worth noting we'll give a 10x multiplier for sentiment, local, and personal relationship interests.
