There has been a lot of discussion lately that Mark Recchi might hang up his skates after this season if the Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup. He’s said that. He’s 43, he’s played 21 years in the NHL, and yet I still expect to see him on the ice next year. Don’t worry Bruins fans I’m not saying you aren’t going to win the Cup; I’m just saying I will believe that the BC native is retiring when I see the report that he's filed his paperwork with the league.

It’s been amazing what this well traveled left winger has been able to do. He’s played in 1,647 games (5th all-time just four games behind Chris Chelios) and now he’s in sole possession of 12th place on the all-time scoring list ahead of Oilers legend Paul Coffey with 1,532 points. He did it in Boston and the team patted him on the back but that’s all the celebrating he would do.

The game before in Philadelphia he was in on the game-winning goal when teammate Brad Marchand knocked in a rebound off a Dennis Seidenberg shot at 16:17 of the third period. It was a great moment for him tying the record, a personal moment that he would relish for about, 10 seconds perhaps, perhaps even less than that.

In the locker room he was being interviewed by a lone reporter with his gear on his shoulder, I was getting tired just thinking about how heavy that was, and yet he sat through questions giving the best of responses.
