Question Beckett or not to Beckett?

I am curious how many folks here on the forum actually subscribe to Beckett (OPG or printed), and how many simply use the 'Bay to judge supposed book value, trade value, sale value, whatever you would like to call it haha.

Personally, I subscribe to the OPG (I am pondering stopping my subscription though) and I also use eBay to judge value if the OPG is way off.

I haven't been subscribed since the end of January. As soon as the trading tools are back up and running I will be re-subscribing to the OPG. I just have too many OLDER, WORTHLESS wants that you will never see an ebay sales price for. Now for newer, flavour of the month cards, I am happy to use ebay pricing to establish a value.

I use both, Beckett represents what you would most likely pay at an LCS or a show. But on the other hand eBay represents the real market value for the card at the time. I usually find the middle ground.

Haven't used Beckett since the end of 2009. My thoughts on the matter are discussed (in my usual verbose way LOL) here: https://www.sportscardforum.com/articles/2011/01/the-evolution-of-assessing-a-card%e2%80%99s-value/

In sum, follow your instincts and do your research. You know what your guy's stuff goes for, it's just a matter of finding a common ground with your trade partners for fair value in return.

I use Beckett mags (don't subscribe) but mostly to be sure I'm not being insulting when I'm making a trade offer. I pretty much place my own value on cards, since I rarely if ever buy.

I subscribe to the OPG and probably won't cancel anytime soon. I use ebay, Insider's Edge, and other information I can find (like PMs to player collectors for advice), though.

'Value' is too nebulous a concept for any 1 source to hold the 'answer'. As others have said, you need to do the research and determine what you want and be open and willing to negotiate towards that end.
