That is a good article, but it doesn't really address what the Hawaiian standards were when Obama was born (1961). Remember, part of the issue here is that when Obama was born, Hawaii itself was only two years old. So it's not like being born in Rhode Island in 1961, some of the paperwork they used then may now be defunct.
Here's my breakdown of the Obama birther argument:
1. The people who think he was born in the US/the people who don't care either way.
I myself, fall into both of these categories. I think he was born in the US (I've yet to see any evidence of his Kenyan birth). And even if he wasn't, I don't care. It doesn't make him any less American to me. I know people who have immigrated to the US that are far more proud to be an American than some who have been born here.
2. The people who will ALWAYS believe that he is a Kenyan Muslim.
There could be video evidence of Obama coming out of the womb under a "Welcome to Hawaii" sign with an American flag pinned to his forehead and they still wouldn't believe he was US born. It's funny to me because a lot of the "birthers" scoff at people who believe 9/11 or Kennedy conspiracies, all while claiming the entire Obama presidency is a conspiracy. Funny how quick we grasp onto these conspiracy theories when they favor our point of view.
I guess my point is this. I'm aggravated by how people have turned this into such a monumental issue when we all know that nothing would ever be done about it anyways. Trump is basically running on this argument, but what is he going to do? Push Congress to file impeachment proceedings? They'd get laughed at when they couldn't provide a lick of legit evidence.
This is a microcosm of the phenomenon that Thomas Frank wrote about in "What's the Matter with Kansas", where the general public is beginning to vote more on social issues than political/economic ones.

I couldn't have said it any better myself, especially the first few sentences.
If you truly believe Obama was not born in the United States and yet was elected president despite this - you need to be concerned not about Obama but about our political processes.

Thats a very narrow minded statement, this country is suffering because of both Dems and Reps, and alot of this crap boils down to the other side not wanting the other do get credit when they make progress....and the junk won't stop until people quit going by party lines and get new blood in there, and people who don't act childish.....as far as the whole BC issue it should be just dropped, and if its of such concern don't re elect?? Simple as that.

well said brandon. I'm so sick of the US citizens fighting against each other based on Rep and Dem. It's time to realize that they are both doing harm and seem to be 100% against working together to create unity. I get that there will be differences and people have lots of different views about many different things that involves government, but to act like one side isn't as bad as the other is very narrow minded. I for one am tired of the statusquo and would like to start hearing solution over blame.
