I liked Edge and all, but just in my opinion, I never held him in the same company as Taker/Cena even SuperOrton in his time...He was an 11 time WWE champion but had to many short and forgettable reigns, i'll remember him for being 1/6th of the best ladder match i had ever seen (Wrestlemania) though, and his 2001-03 stuff with guys like Angle was gold.

Well ... he's in the same category than SuperOrton and Cena . Edge is the perfect example of a guy who eats sleeps and breathes this buisness and was groomed the perfect way . He was groomed the same way Shawn Micheals was pushed . Can you recall a bad Egde match ?

He's over with the fans though, and is leaving a huge gap on Smackdown where we're stuck with Big Show and Rey Mysterio as the 'biggest' stars of the show, which is unfortunate.

Are you following hockey ? If so , it would be like Sidney Crosby announcing his retirement . Or Alex Rodriguez saying after hitting a game-winning grand slam that he is retiring . Or Peyton Manning after throwing the Super Bowl-Winning touchdown pass that he is retiring .

Of course it's not the end of the world , but imagine that you have what you eats , breathes and sleeps about in a heartbeat ? Wouldn't it be dramatic ?

Its not anywhere near the level of what you stated for retirement. You would have to have Cena retire or Triple H in his prime retire or the Rock, SCSA, etc. Edge meant a lot to a lot of fans but he was never the face of the company like Cena, Rock, SCSA, Hogan. He was definitely a draw though. In this day and age of wrestling having that many title reigns is not as impressive as it used to be. When Flair was winning it was over time and spread out, Hogan did it before his NWO days and it meant something, Bret Hart before WCW. Winning the title meant something then, now they are all watered down.

its not about the fact he won titles , does a wrestler is awful if he doesnt win title ? Like mick foley said in his book ; its likely pad on the back for your good work. , its about the fact that the wwe just lost one of his top 4 superstars (edge,cena,orton,miz) , one of the guy who could help the young guys (dolph , del rio , mcintyre). Currently watching the KOTR 2001 ; which was the start of his feud with Kurt Angle, he did awesome buisness with every face in the buisness , a task that is really hard to do .

I never consider him as the face of the WWE ; but he was for the past few years one of his cornerstones. He was to the present WWE what Ted Dibiase was years ago .

No he isn't...Orton & Cena are draws, the crowd is red hot for Orton..nobody in the WWE are on the same level as Cena/Orton are currently..Yes I can recall a bad Edge match, his Wrestlemania match wasn't that good at all...

Orton was never a draw in his heel run either, either was HHH, people paid for Austin/Rock..

You mean John Cena or Undertaker? Your saying Edge is the best in the WWE essentially which is wrong, it may be your opinion but its still wrong.

you know gladdy as much i agree with you most of the time you are just flat out wrong right now. the night after he won the wwe title from cena the first time was one of the highest rate raws in many years. he was cena, and takers TOP rivals for years. like i said he may have not been the face of the wwe, be he was the backbone.

I never said he wasn't a backbone piece to the WWE, (he was a top heel for awhile) but he was never a big draw and atleast to the casual fan, it seemed he wasnt much of a draw either. He's like Jericho in my opinion, who doesnt like Jericho? I think he's almost liked by everyone, but I don't think anyone would call him a draw.

But he was stale for me for a long time, and WWE ruined most of his 2010 run, perhaps i'll refresh my memory watching some of the 2002-2006 stuff, but he just never did much for me, he wasn't bad, but I never would put him as a top player..he was a top player on the B show no doubt, but was lost in the shuffle when he was moved to RAW.

I am very sad not to see Edge in a WWE ring anymore but there are many memories and matches to look back on. I am sure he has enough time left on the contract for him to stick around in some capacity and not just pack it up right now. How awesome would it be to have him stay on SD doing the Cutting Edge segment? I could see him doing that, certainly doing it now with ADR and Christian feuding over the title.

I hate to agree with gladdy on certain points, but on this I think he is absolutely right.
Jericho was there the majority of the time that Austin, Rock, HHH, Taker where on top, but (to me) I see those guys as the TOP draws. Jericho was someone who could (and still can) have a match with anyone and would be one of the best matches on the card. Kurt Angle is in this category, in this era, as well.
Same thing with Edge. I look at the last 5 years and while, yes, he feuded with Undertaker & Cena, those guys are the top draws. Orton is a top guy as well, but for some reason still not a top draw.

he is the guy that worked with the BIGGEST draws in the company. to say that he wasn't a top draw when all he did was main event and wrestle the biggest names in the company is insane. PEOPLE PAID TO SEE HIM GET HIS BUTT HANDED TO HIM. thats what a heel does to draw.
