Noobie Question. Hobby vs Retail

I think I have settled on the first box to buy for my son and I to break. The Donruss 10/11 seems like a good start for us, then maybe later we can get into some of the higher end stuff. But on this box, what's the difference between the Retail and the Hobby box? Both seem to have the same number of packs and the same number of cards in the pack and both guarantee three hits per box with at least one auto. But the Retail is $10 cheaper...why?

hobby has exclusive cards that cannot be found in retail, but I'll tell you the retail donruss seems to be just as good, other than the exclusive hits.

I might have to agree with adadas101...I busted 2 boxes of the hobby version the autos I pulled couldn't be any worse than autos in the retail version.

Overall, I did like Donruss this year and you'd probably be just fine picking up the retail boxes since the hit ratio is the same.

Of course, for other products there are certainly big differences between the retail and hobby boxes in terms of hit ratio and quality of hits.

As far as 10/11 Donruss goes, I have opened 1 Hobby box and 7 retail boxes, and the retail has been by far the better product for me. There is always the chance of hitting the "big" hit in either, but I would recommend going with retail if you are going to buy Donruss. I hope you and your son pull something great out of whatever product you decide to open!! I can't wait for my boy to be old enough to collect with me :) Good luck.

Yeah I wonder if there was some kind of mix up at the factory because I have seen better breaks from the retail version plenty of times!

Just depends on the product, as others have mentioned. Personally, I enjoyed hobby boxes more than retail ones. But retail is not a bad way to go if you are starting to collect with your son.
