    Thumbs down Celtics... Perkins trade

What In the World made the Celtics Trade Kendrick Perkins...!?

I do not see much reasoning in this.. Perkins was not a Big Name Center But he was Pretty good in my opinion, and got the Championship once already with him. Last year's loss was Blamed on NOT Having Perkins, Then they Trade him?

Who Executed this Deal? Has anyone come out publicly from the organization disapproving this Move??

I think the Celtics got Ripped, and was Easy to see this was a Bad Move from almost every aspect, especially at this point in the Year..

I think they are 15-13 Since the Trade..?
Were #1 In the East for the Majority of the Season, then decide to trade a major piece of the puzzle with a 39 y/o backup.??

They probably Would have finished with #1 almost for sure #2 Spot if this trade was not done.

AM I THE ONLy Person that sees that this was a FATAL Error?

I ask: WHY??? and your Thoughts..?

They traded him because they couldn't afford to resign him for next year apparantly, so they traded him to OKC for Jeff Green to come off the bench.

Only problem is they can't afford to sign Jeff Green either, so the deal makes absolutly no sense. The GM made the trade obviously, and gave the standard rationale, however i'm pretty sure all the players and coach didn't like that the trade was made..If they were gonna win it all this year, it's gonna cost them, they lost size, Jermaine & Shaquille O'Neal are not gonna get it done, they are always not healthy at this point in both of their careers..

However, almost all Celtics fans on this forum seemed to be in favor of the deal atleast initally for whatever reason..

And to add, if they didnt overpay for Pierce, they could've afforded to keep Perkins

I dont think it was the best deal for either team, But OKC will benefit more.
I had Boston as favorites for sure in the East since the Very beginning, and thought that IF healthy they could beat the Lakers or at least push it to 7 Games again.

They were doing great all season long, chemistry was there, No.1 in the league, Experience.
That was a Major Trade, should have definetly held off until after the season.
    BECAUSE:
Boston's Chances of winning another ring in My opinion has gone Down each season, after the first. The Team Is aging and will be hard to keep healthy.

Rivers Leaving, BIG 3 Aging, I think this was their last Legit Shot, without an overhaul or some Major Changes to the Roster.

I don't know who you talked to from Boston that was in favor of the trade, but I do know some people around Boston that think the trade had nothing to do with the end of the year slip, AND I think they are completely wrong.Others also think it wasn't bad because he wasn't an offensive threat and couldn't hit free tthrows. IT was the WOrst move ever. PErkins is a great force in the middle, Makes Gasol look like the European softie he truly is, and he is ROndo's great friend. Funny that ROndo started playing worse after the trade... not a coincidence at all, IT affected the team emotionally along with their chemistry.

I think they should have waited to win it this year and then done w/o him after. I agree with you guys on the diminishing chances of winning with time. I thought they would definitely win it with the team they had. Now, I don't know. I was counting on one more this year. I really was. It's hard to watch the team now with so many new guys that do not have the same defensive intensity as the team with perkins and Nate. I even miss Erden.

The argument I heard, which makes sense, is that the cletics beat all the top teams in the regualar season when Perk was hurt. however they had all the othe guys they lost playing, not Green, Krostoc and Murphy, PAvlovic etc..

I still have to believe because Jermaine played well the last couple of games and there sin't much time left with the aging 3...soooooo....GO CELTICS #18...gotta believe

The Celtics can re-sign Green. That was pretty much the point of the trade. Because of NBA rules, the Celtics could only offer so much to Perkins. It has to do with the maximum allowable raise per year a team can give one of it's own players. Perkins wasn't going to sign for that much, so he'd have to become a free agent before the Celtics could re-sign him. Problem with that is the Celtics are over the cap, so they can't sign free agents for more than a given exception. Again, not enough for Perkins.

Jeff Green will be a restricted free agent (RFA) this offseason. As an RFA, the Celtics have the ability to match any offer sheet Green might sign with another team even though they're over the cap. Also, as Green is coming off his rookie scale contract, there aren't the same restrictions in place that were for Perkins.

So for Ainge, it was either go with Perkins this season, try to win a Championship, and get nothing for him in the offseason or move him now and get something of value in return that otherwise wouldn't be available since the Celtics are over the cap. What he should've done is debatable.

They tradec Perkins because they knew he wouldn't stick around next season. As well they thought Jeff Green was a reasonable backup to Paul Pierce which hasn't eventuated.

Next season they can get possiblyGrant Hill tho.

Green is gonna get like $5-$8 million the the open market probably? Are the Celtics really gonna pay that much for a 6th/7th man?

If the Celtics win the Title.... then it was a great move by Ainge, if they lose it will go down as one of the worst trades of the year. I still like our chances, if the starters can get going. Ray Allen only getting 10 or less shots a game is not going to cut it. With the subs playing the last two games they averaged over 100 points a game, so they can score. It will be an interesting playoffs this year.

If they weren't, why would they have made the trade? Assuming the Celtics are competently run, they have done their homework and know what Green could get as an RFA. I would assume they have every intention of matching it. If Boston doesn't win the Championship and lets Green walk, I think there will be a major backlash from the fan base.
