Coyotes Closing In On Move To Winnipeg
Amid reports the deal to sell the Phoenix Coyotes to Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer is on life support, a source with knowledge of the situation told THN.com a deal is basically done to move the Coyotes to Winnipeg and will be announced sometime between the end of the Stanley Cup final and the June 24 draft.
According to the source, the deal calls for the Coyotes to be sold to True North Sports and Entertainment for $140 million. It’s believed the deal will be announced at something north of $200 million, but that includes more than $60 million in renovations to add 2,500 seats to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

I still won't believe it until the deal is done.

Yay so they can move back to Winnipeg, and in 5 or so years when its proven AGAIN that Winnipeg cant support a NHL team, they will move AGAIN.
Ridiculous. If they arent viable in Phoenix, move them somewhere new, not back to where they failed to begin with. Anyone know the definition of insanity?
Although if they do move, thats good for the UFA list as half of the guys on that team dont want to play in Winnipeg including Yandle and Bryzgalov.

I love how all of these articles keep on drumming up hope of a franchise in Winnipeg. They had their chance and it failed. Whats the saying? Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it?

They absolutely did fail despite devised schemes from grassroots effort and government funds they were still one of the smallest market teams in the NHL and could not afford to keep their top players. Winnipeg can have tremendous fan support but the revenue for the team would not be there

Like the post above, I'll believe it when I see it.

From what I understand the team didn't really see any of the revenue last time they were here. I forget most of the info. I'll see if I can find it but I believe some group got most of the revenue and not the team itself. If the fan support is there, will that not make the team money?

and one guy through Doan under the bus saying he didn't want to mention names but "one of the guys who used to play with the Jets doesn't want to play in Winnipeg".
I could see winnipeg supporting an NHL team. when I was in Winnipeg for my brothers bantam western championship tournament people came from all over Winnipeg to watch this tournament. I know that it's the kids draft year this year for the whl but like thats only Bantam AAA. imagine the NHL level? I think they could support a team.

I agree, I mean moving a team back to Minnesota was just a horrible move.
Some people talk hockey, and some people know hockey, but not very often people can do both.

You'd think that the Canadian dollar was still at .60US the way you guys are talking. Things have changed tremendously in the economics of hockey in Winnipeg since the mid-1990s. With the dollar at par, and likely to stay that way a while, they'll be more financially viable by a wide margin than they were the first time around.
If the Thompson group gets on board, as is widely speculated, they'll have all the corporate sponsorship they need.
The fans will show up in big numbers.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
