I've thought about this subject a number of times. My collection was mainly made up of junk wax stuff too. If we just landfilled or burned even a quarter of what's out there then maybe the value would finally go up above the cost of the cardboard.

It probably will never go up. People don't realize how much of this stuff was made. When you only had 1 set a year the companies could print it year round and they did. There are also rumors and I don't see any reason not to believe them that Upper Deck continued printing 1989 Upper Deck YEARS after 1989 and basically used it as currency. Very few stuff from that time is rare and even less of it is desired.

Yep, I have a closet full of 80's and 90's cards. I gave up mid 90's when I finally realized how worthless they were all becoming. The only good thing about the collection was the look on my 8 y/o sons face when he saw that giant stack of binders and boxes and he was instantly hooked and just HAD to start a collection of his own. So now we have something to do together and he is really enjoying our new hobby, so it was all worth it.
