    Anyone still cracking 05-06 Wax

Haven't cracked wax in years. Anyone still cracking the older stuff like 05-06.
Besides The Cup and Ultimate, whats a few good boxes to break open. I was thinking SP Authentic and SPX.

Go 2006-07 SP Authentic. It was loaded with 2005-06 SP Authentic stuff like Crosby, Ovechkin, Lundqvist, etc., plus the 2006-07 guys like Malkin, Staal, Kopitar, etc.

If not, then 2005-06 Ice is a good choice.

Ice is an extreme long shot. IIRC someone did a breakdown and the /99 RCs are something like 1:7 cases. If you hit one, boom! If not, you could be looking at a pretty big dud.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

While it doesn't apply to all 05-06 products, some of the boxes are expensive to buy like UD Series 1 because of the chance of pulling a Crosby rookie. For the price of a box, you're almost better off jusy buying the Crosby YG rather than risking your money on the box and hoping to get one. Like IrbeFan4Life said, only half of the SPA RCs were released that year and the other half with the 06-07 release, so you're better off buying 06-07 SPA. One last thing to consider when buying a product realesed more than 2 or 3 years ago is that the redemptions are very likely to be expired if you pull one. I'm not trying to sway you away from buying 05-06 product, but these are all things to consider.

I believe UD Series 2 boxes are still selling for a fair price through. YGs in that set include Oveckin, Carter, Vanek, Getzlaf, Franzen.

Are you saying that half the rookies in 05-06 product were released in the 06-07 wax. But those were not redemptions?

Only SP Authentic. Not all were redemptions...some autos may be redemptions, but Crosby, Ovi, and the good ones from 2005-06 are not redemptions since they are holdbacks from the 2005-06 product. In my first box of 06-07 SPA, I pulled an 06-07 Malkin SOTT signature, an 05-06 Franzen FW RC/AU, an 06-07 Ramo FW RC/AU, and more. The hits are larger in number than in any other SPA product released thus far, and because the Crosby and Ovechkin are numbered in the hundreds, and sell very high regardless, it is probably the best bet for 2005-06/2006-07 wax.

05/06 still packs great hits... why not still crack it?

Because the stuff is priced primarily with Crosby and Ovechkin hits in mind, that's why. It's the most disproportionate product year out there right now, and will be for a long, long time. You of all people should know that.

A guy looking for Carter, Richards, Phaneuf, Lundqvist, Perry, Getzlaf, etc., would be MUCH better off scouring eBay or the boards for singles rather than shell out so much money for wax because there MIGHT be a Crosby or Ovie card in there.

Vendors are covering themselves in case the product does have a Crosby or Ovie RC by charging as if every box actually has one. And if people are buying them regardless, then good for the vendors. But it's a sucker purchase.

Thanks everyone for the input. I realize the product will not be the same price as when first released. Which hotter product ever is.

But I took Irbefans advise and bought a box of 06-07. Then I got talked into a box of 10-11 which was a dud.

We used to crack cases upon cases of wax like crazy. I wish I put all that money into vintage stuff. lol
