eBay Uber-Rant!!
So...I'm no longer selling on eBay. Not by choice, mind you.
Here's what happened.
I screwed up on a big shipment and the whole lot of it went out late. I got hammered on shipping time DSR's as a result. Fair enough. I didn't do anything but apologize about it to everyone and give out a whack of
refunds to try to appease people, but still got crushed on DSR's. Ebay put me on limited sales access.
The next month's shipments were mostly to the US. Every single package went out within the four day shipping window I set up as my timeline. And yet, some took a long time to get to the US. It's been well-documented on this and other forums that there has been a slowdown of Canada to US mail and there was zero I could do about it. Again, several people gave me low DSR's but only in shipping time.
You need to understand that when someone so much as asks about a delay, I offer a refund to try to stave this DSR issue off. Obviously it wasn't working. This is also despite the fact that I offered refunds to buyers in the US that were annoyed when a card took more than a week which is virtually unheard of anyway. Still, I offered the refund, asked for their patience and sent a lot of shipping money back as a result but thought it would keep people happy. For six people, it didn't, and they gave me low DSR's. I was limited for another month.
Month three rolls around. I've now changed my text to tell US buyers to expect delays. Still, not one package goes out late (though one did get sent to the wrong address, thanks to a screwup with me not using PayPal because frankly I hate the eBay/PayPal monopoly, but that's another story). Two people give me low DSR's again for shipping time, two of nearly 200 packages.
And my account gets restricted. This means, dead in the water, thank you for playing, good bye, so long, and thanks for all the fish. You are no longer welcome on eBay.
My account was restricted indefinitely for the number of low DSR's. This, to me, is insane. It's not a percentage, it's a hard number. So the more you sell, the more you risk violating this policy. And notwithstanding that I had 99.9% feedback over 3000, with I think 2 neutrals in the last 12 months, and that all my other DSR's were completely fine, they just...pulled the plug on me.
I sent an extensive letter to their Below Standard Group explaining that I always act pre-emptively to offer refunds and to manage buyer expectations and their response was "yeah, but you had low DSR's in one category". That's it. Well, I knew that, you geniuses. I was trying to explain there was a bigger picture that should be looked at instead of just a computer saying "this category is larger than number X, being our threshold, and since X is a fixed number and not related to overall sales as a percentage (which makes no sense to me at all but it IS eBay), you're shut down". All my other indices of performance were well above standard. They didn't care.
I filed an appeal. Heard nothing back for weeks. When I finally called, I got shunted around but finally spoke to someone that informed me my appeal had been rejected. I asked him when. He said he couldn't tell me. I asked him what the reasons were. He said he didn't know, only that I had these low DSR's in one category. I asked what else could be done since shutting down an Power Seller for one category of DSR's which are largely beyond my control and which are, in my opinion, calculated incorrectly as already stated above, to me makes absolutely no sense. I've never missed a payment, always had excellent feedback, and now I was facing them shutting me down.
He said nothing else could be done, that my account was restricted indefinitely and that was that. Too bad, so sad.
Just a word of warning to everyone. eBay has always been a pain in my you-know-what, but I managed. I am still disgusted at how I was treated and truly don't understand their (lack of) logic whatsoever.
Careful, my friends, lest ye find yourself in the same boat I am now in, with buckets of cards to sell and no eBay to do so in.

I am nearly in the same boat. 2148 100% Positive feedback, bad DSR in shipping charges (Only charge $2.49 to USA) and I am nearly booted. I charge less than it costs me to ship it and because these buyers don't like it I get screwed.
Talked to 7 different people at Ebay, got 7 different stories. Nobody knows ™™™ is going on. Ebay will lose another power seller soon, and the $1200-1500 in fees I paid monthly. Not much in the grand scheme of things, but if they keep knocking the little guys out it will add up. So if anyone from Ebay is reading this I hope you are happy! (I changed a lot of my wording so I don't get booted from this site as well!) LOL

Like max91ess said, you gave horrible advice there. That doesn't work because you will either not sell anything or get hit with low DSR in shipping charges.

eBay has college flunkies working there now, all they do when you complain is bring something up on the computer and read it to you.

So true! You tell them your problem and they repeat it back to you while they search for the next thing to say. They then read a pre written response! If you ask a question they type it in and read that response. I told the one guy yesterday that the response had nothing to do with why I was calling. He said, oh hold on, and then read something else. I asked to be trasferred and he couldn't because he had to answer my question first! WOW!!!

Ebay flunkies? Lol.
Their call centre is in the Philippines. eBay employees there might be lucky to have Grade 8 education at best. If they have a 300 word vocabulary in English, they have a job.
eBay only survives because they have NO viable competitors. In any other industry, they would have been out of business long ago.
