New Free Agents / New Salary Cap Rule
According to latimes.com there is a new rule that if you waive a player...his salary does not count against the luxury tax (although it still counts against the salary cap).
I cut this part from the article about the potential new free agents. Looks like a nice list to me, if they're all available.
The clause probably will lead to the end of Allan Houston's nine-year career with the New York Knicks and Michael Finley's nine-year tenure with the Dallas Mavericks. Other high-salaried players who could be released are Philadelphia 76er forward Chris Webber, Toronto Raptor guard-forward Jalen Rose, Miami Heat guard Eddie Jones and Orlando guard-forward Doug Christie. Players waived under the provision could sign with any team except the one that released them.

Haha, Mitch, that's funny.
For the conspiracy buffs out there, you can say this is Stern's way of floating some talent to the Lakers. Remember in 2002 when Stern secretly said he wanted "the Lakers vs the Lakers" in the finals?
