I knew there would be controversy about this. E-mail Topps and ask them how many people they employed in December of 2000. Also ask all your buddies card shops etc., see how many people you can find that have Topps employees cards. The Ichiro in the set was selling on ebay for $600, so if you bought a complete set for $100 then Congratulations cause that was the steal of a lifetime. I'm not itching to part with these by no means, but I figured i'd help some player collectors out with a toughie to add to their collection.

Anyone else interested LMK and we'll see if we can work something out.

First of all, it doesn't make a bit of difference how many employees Topps had as to how many sets they made. Second of all, do a quick search on eBay for these cards. Someone broke up a set, and most of them didn't sell for their $2.50 minimum bid.

If for some reason some nut paid $600 for an Ichiro it's because it's his ROOKIE and people from Japan sometimes get a little carried away on his stuff (though I'd still like to see a link to the $600 auction). None of the guys you listed would go for 1/100th that amount. Non-auto, non-GU cards /150 are a dime-a-dozen.

    Good luck with them.

There shouldn't be any controversy, as no one knows for sure what was actually printed, not even an executive at Topps.
But Topps did a very bad employee promotional thank you idea with this set, as they forgot to place a #erd logo on the cards. I have seen some sets labeled to 350 and some sets not labeled at all, so I'm not sure if that print run is correct.

I am just going by facts.
Whether Topps employed 150, 350 or 1,000 people at that time, it's irrelevant to the fact of when they gave these free cards out to their employees and what they actually printed.

The McGwire game used card was labeled /350 on the front of the card.

The sets and game used cards were given to the employees within a two month period. Some employees actually only received a small package of individual 01 embossed cards (100 to each box).

The last set that I saw sell on ebay, went for $187, back in March of 2005. As far as it's worth, many dealers say the set or individual cards can be based on a 3X to 10X regular set book value, depending on the player.

Not sure where you saw the Ichiro for $600 on ebay, but you rarely see his autos go that high. The only ones I've seen were graded a 9 or better or it was his 01 SPX or an auto #erd to 10 or less.

You offered me the McGwire's for $50 and $30, why would anyone do that when they can be bought for $20 for both of them?

I've seen these cards sell so much on ebay for $.99 - $2.50 or less, that I really wonder what the actual print run was.

I have been following these employee cards for over 2 years and am really starting to think that Topps made a major printing error on the 01 set.

No matter how you look at it, the cards are a great addition to anyones collection.

That's why there is so much controversary, mainly because of Topps.

But partially due to people like yourself not doing their homework and asking for WAY too much to people that know better or to people that haven't got a clue.
That's why people use references such as ebay, to see where the cards are at in the market and then offer them, especially on limited production cards.
The seller on ebay did his homework and is selling them at or above the going rate.

People do the same things with the so called 1 of 1's, you know, the ones that are #erd like: 23/500 and it's a game used jersey of Mattingly, WOW and it's his jersey #. NOT A 1 OF 1.
Yes, there are people that collect the first and last #'s of serial #erd cards and even cards that depict their players # in the serial #, but plain and simple, a 1 of 1 is a 1 of 1.

The hobby is starting to get ruined and people are turning away from such discrepencies from other people's descriptions and companies coming out with so many low #erd cards.

It's a shame that there are so many people out there looking to scam others on cards such as these, especially to the collectors that don't know any better or have enough experience.

And yes, I picked up the Macs, but since I found them even cheaper on another site ($10 delivered for both of them), you can see where the market really is on these cards.

    Thank you.
