    What is the difference?

As some of you may know, I am in charge of the racing section for the OPG/Storefront area. While I am knowledgeable on some, I will admit that I am not on all. I'm fine with this. Anyways, this is where you guys come in since some of you are more knowledgeable than I am in certain areas.

My question to whoever can answer is: What is the difference between 2004 Press Pass Platinum and 2004 Press Pass Platinum Variations?

Thank you in advance for help with this, and feel free to stop by and use the Inventory Manager on here. Without members using it, how will we know what is needing to be fixed? :-)

Well, I know there were regular base in '04, as well as the Platinum 1 per pack parallels.

If you recall back in '04 PP had variations at like 2 per box. (Blue background vs. red background, stripes on a banner vs. no stripes, stuff like that.)

The only thing I can think of is maybe some of the '04 Variations were also made with the platinum parallel coating?

Yeah, I know of the variations to the base (McMurray has one).

The lists provided for both sets covers all 100 cards. So, I'm not sure that they are just the Platinum versions of the variations. I could be wrong though.

My only guess is that maybe the Variation set is the same cards but without the word "PLATINUM" all over it and just the holofoil.

Here is one of the ones I have of McMurray and the only version I ever recall seeing:

I'd just assume that '2004 Press Pass Platinum Variations' are the regular 2004 Press Pass Platinum parallels.

That is what I'm thinking, but going to wait a little while longer just in case someone else may know something about them. If not, I'm going to see if anything can be done involving one of those sets listed in the database here.

to be honest I didnt even know a such thing existed before I saw it in the SCF database-im still reluctant to add the variation to my own Carl database as I have never seen any difference in any of the platinums in color or application-at least for Carl.

There were a few years that I didn't primarily add to the database, but for the most part I have added most of what is listed. I think 2004 and 2005 were the only year I didn't primarily add.

The two versions of the 2004 Press Pass Platinum set has been bothering me for a little bit now and as you can tell I finally got around to seeing if the racing community could help shed some light on it. So far, it appears to be a mystery for the one.

When putting this together, we mostly got our lists from that one place that everyone either loves or hates or loves to hate. Lately though, I have been doing what I can to add racing's based on manufacturers' checklist and user input (like you and a few others have done so far, Stephen).

If anyone out there reading this has any info about the difference in the sets in question, PLEASE post and share. Add pictures if possible! I'm sure we would all love to know more about it! Thanks!

    THIS MYSTERY HAS BEEN SOLVED!

I recently tried for and won a lot of 2004 Press Pass #73 (Jamie McMurray's Car). This lot consisted of the base (have), Sample (needed), Platinum (have), and the Platinum Variation (of course needed).

For anyone that wants to know the difference, it is really simple. The Platinum Variation looks basically like the base card (silver foil on front and no P prefix before number on back) BUT has PLATINUM 2004 across the front of it like the Platinum cards.

Well, looks like this is finally solved! Hope this information helps, and best of luck in searching for them!

I finally got around to scanning the front of the Platinum Variation to add to my Inventory's PC on here. So, I thought I would take this time to show both the Platinum and the Platinum Variation for card 73 so everyone has a better idea of them:
